stm25rs
I found an 06 for sale, 5MT, limited, RBP with tan leather, sedan, new clutch. It still has the original turbo, which isn't a major concern to me - from everything I've gleaned from this site so far, it's better to have the stock turbo, or for the original to have been replaced as preventative maintenance, than it is to have a new turbo installed after the stock one failed (metal in the motor). If I do buy this car, I'd probably just have the 105k mile service done asap, along with a new turbo, and remove (or at least inspect/clean or replace the banjo filters). I'll be calling him today with a bunch of questions - oil change interval, single owner, miles on new clutch, etc. The car's in Buffalo NY, and I live in MD, but it looks like Innovative Tuning is really close to his house, so I could have them do the prepurchase inspection. He's moving and needs to sell the car, so he has it listed at $11k OBO. KBB was just about $13.5k. Any thoughts on this car, particularly in relation to the high mile stock turbo, or a reasonable offer on my end?
c-lo
been out of the car market for some time. I have 219k on my 05 GT. first turbo I swapped out at 98k. it still had some life on it. second I swapped out at 120k. it was nearly shot. If $11k is a reasonable offer....jump on it. so close to that 105k service. it could be done really at any time though. consider asking buyer to do the service or take a bit off the selling price? 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
stm25rs
Thanks c-lo. Any idea why your second turbo only lasted 22k miles? Once it gets 3rd party inspected, and I have a better idea of actual cosmetic condition (curbed wheels, interior nicks, rock chips, door dings) I think I'll have a better idea of what price to offer. stm25rs
Gotcha, that makes more sense. Is the consensus on higher mileage LGTs to always get a compression and leakdown test pre-purchase? I'm hoping that since this one is still on the original turbo, a standard prepurchase inspection by a subaru tuner will be enough.
stm25rs
This guy's the 2nd owner, and the carfax shows that the first owner put on 32000 miles in 7 months, at which point it was listed as a dealer vehicle and sold at auction. The next listing shows it sold by a Subaru Dealer to the current owner. This owner has put on about 10k miles per year. On the phone he mentioned recent engine repairs (including new headgaskets), and he'll be sending me the details of what was completed. Does the 32k miles in 7 months thing concern anybody else? I'm just worried it was a lease and got beat on. But, at the same time, it's still on the original turbo, which I'd say is a good sign that the car was well maintained. This guy says he changes the oil every 3k, which, if he has records, makes me more confident.
LosAngelesLGT
You are concerned that TWO owners back it was abused and the last owner fixed things? Im a little confused.
stm25rs
I guess I was concerned that the first owner may have been a lease, and abused the car. That said, he sent me a few detailed pictures of the cosmetic issues, and I'm going to pass. I'm going to check out supraru's car (posted in the FS section) this weekend, and I have a good feeling about it so far.
