05 Legacy.. an audiophile's nightmare

Well I heard that someone installed some Infinity speakers successfully, so new component speakers might be my only audio-related mod until Subaru releases a special trim plate to replace the climate controls. Tonight I verified that there is no MP3 support with the HU. I decided to find out if a single DIN CD player would fit in that slot in the glove box. I have a Pioneer 8400MP, a single DIN MP3 CD player, and I removed it from its box and test fit it in the slot in the glove box. To my dismay, the glove box slot is wide enough, but it is not tall enough. The height of the slot is just a few mm too short to prevent me from sliding the single DIN cd player in. :| So.. it would be just as much work to modify that to get the CD player to fit as modifying the center console to get a fit. Ugh! Subaru better release that trim plate really soon! This sucks. I just want to be able to play MP3s without using crappy FM modulators.

Are you sure there's not some cover on it to make it look neat? AFAIK that spot is for the DVD nav unit, which should be DIN. I'd look myself but my car isn't here yet :(

Go here: http://www.legacysti.com/viewtopic.php?t=938&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 about half way down there are some pics I took during a test drive. Well, ok. It was actually after the test drive and the car was parked. :D

Franz, Take a listen to a modern modulator set-up, I don't think the sound is too bad on my Kenwood KDCMP59FM, and if/when the faceplate becomes available you can easily change head unit and plumb the bus lead directly to it (bypassing modulator), assuming you stick with same brand of changer/headunit.
