Hey all, great forum, really glad I found this place :icon_chee

I have a 2005 LGT Limited, and the cursed banjo bolts gunked up and my turbo was choked to death, so it's time to upgrade. I have a Blouch 440xt turbo on the way, and I have a Perrin uppipe and a dandy intercooler whose name I can't recall, as I bought it just before winter started here in Canada (had planned on upgrading a bit this summer). I am not too knowledgeable about upgrading/tuning.....and by "not too knowledgeable" I mean that this is the first car I actually liked enough to not drive into the ocean for failing me. Aaaaanywho, I have a few questions for you all:

1. Once all is installed and the banjo bolts replaced along with a new timing belt and pump (car is due for the maintenance), I plan on taking it to a tuner. I'm wondering what would be a good max HP for a conservative tune? Not trying to race every car that pulls up next to me, this is a daily driver.....but 320-340HP would be nice :p lol

2. I'm hearing mixed feedback, will I need new fuel injectors? I'm hoping not, but if it's called for then I'd go Deatschwerks 1100cc's.

3. What is the best oil to use on Hulkaru? If I ONLY use Mobile1 until the end of time, I'm good, right?

Further down the line I'll be looking to add the Cobb intake and air box, as well as the downpipe. And a new suspension (when I find one worthwhile). For now I just want the turbo to get here so I can get my car back on the road!!! :spin:

Thanks for your time

Welcome.

#1, do not use mobil 1 in these cars. it's known to cause issues.

What happened to your turbo ? did it blow and send metal into the engine ?

With that turbo you will need injectors and fuel pump to get the most out of it.

Leave the banjo filter out.

Thanks, good to know! The turbo went the way most of the turbos go, known issue with those damn banjo filters, oil wasn't getting through and the bearing got baked :S The car actually runs perfectly and there are no CELs, just has no power whatsoever.

I've been leaving it parked in my garage, waiting on the new turbo to come in and driving an old beater in the meantime. The shop I took it to confirmed the turbo being toast, as there was a 'brief' hope that it was in Limp Mode, but I'm not that lucky lol They said everything else was fine, the car is clean, and they'll swap the banjo bolts (without the filter) with the new turbo. Since they're going to be deep in, I figured now would be a good time to get the timing belt and pump changed (due in 7k anyway) and install the parts I had bought.

What oil would you recommend? And I'd appreciate any advice on the tune, as I honestly am completely new to this, so injectors and fuel pump are on the list as you recommended buddy. Thanks again

With a vf52 you can use the stock injectors and fuel pump, I did.

Most guy's like Shell Rotella t6. My wagon saw Rotella 15-40 during the summer time and what ever 5-30 was on sale at Walmart before I replaced the vf40 at 142,000 miles when it whistled one morning, I caught it before it broke.

Castrol Syntech is a good oil too.

Both my cars and the GF's 08 Escape are now on Amsoil, my cars on the European 5w-40 Full SAPS.

Most of the answers to your questions are in any number of recent threads about blown turbos.

You won't need 1000 injectors. 850's will get you anything you might need for street use.

I also run Amsoil in everything I own. There are other great oils, but I have been using Amsoil for 25+ years and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Make sure everything that touches oil in your engine has been checked and cleaned. Metal particles, no matter how small, are your enemy.

If you woke up today, you have another chance to do it right.
