2001 Leggy 3.0 h6 engine in a 2006 2.5i?

Recommended Posts

I would imagine it is...

Perrin had put an H6 into an STI back in the day; it only started breaking when they started installing Perrin parts on it :p

This guy was going to try it out. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/girodisc-widebody-99-gt-limited-157718.html

If you have a manual transmission, it might be tricky/expensive, since the H6 in the 2000-2004 Outbacks (I owned a 2004) was never paired with an automatic transmission, as far as I know. In addition, wiring harnesses and ECU's might need to be swapped/modified, which would mean a lot of troubleshooting.

Those are just problems I thought of off the top of my head. It would be an ambitious project for sure, but the result might be pretty sweet, especially if you do some aftermarket for it (Raptor supercharger kit)

I think it's a good idea. I was thinking of doing it to my 2.5i if I ever come across a decent priced H6. It would definitely be a simpler, cheaper, and more reliable way to make good power than with a turbo/supercharger kit. But again, with all H6 subarus ever made being automatics, I'm not sure how much that would complicate things if you have a manual.

If you decide to take on this project, let me know how it goes.

Would this work? Does anyone know what all would have to be done to do this swap or if it's even possible? Got a guy willing to sell the engine for a good price.

Thanks!

Possible yes!

You'll need a ton of parts not to mention a harness merge to make it all run nicely.

Maybe in the US.

You can get 6MT here, called a 3.0 RB.

I've got one at home I'm swapping the engine (EZ30R) and tranny into a 2002 Outback.

it is possible, i have not seen too many 3.0 with a manual, the 3.3 SVX manual swap is easy. that being said you will need to change suspension as well to support the heavier load and correct the geometry

Sounds like fun AND a headache at the same time, lol.
