NavyMan86
I'm not exactly in the market for huge design changes to my current exhaust. But would it be advisable to simply cut out the cat's in the up and down pipe, leave the cat, change the resonator and mufflers and still get a deep sound? Still a rookie, learning what exactly I want to do to have a combo of stage 1 and 2 parts together.
I Donated thefultonhow Posted January 1, 2013 I Donated Share Posted January 1, 2013 But would it be advisable to simply cut out the cat's in the up Easier said than done. The UP cat is super dense. Easier to buy an STI UP or 07+ LGT UP, or get an aftermarket one. and down pipe, Won't give much performance benefit. If you want more performance, get an aftermarket DP. If you want more noise, get an aftermarket exhaust. leave the cat, Which cat? The UP has one cat, the DP has two, the mid/Y just has a resonator. change the resonator and mufflers and still get a deep sound? Changing the mid/Y and the mufflers will do the most to increase sound levels. You could also keep the stock mid/Y and get muffler deletes, although there is zero performance benefit from this (the stock mid/Y is way more restrictive than the stock mufflers). I guess the question is, do you want a loud exhaust, or a quieter (but high-flow) exhaust with a deep tone? If you want a loud exhaust, get a catback or muffler deletes. If you want a quiet one with deep tone, aftermarket DP and mid/Y with stock mufflers will accomplish that. I personally have an aftermarket catted DP and aftermarket mid/Y with stock mufflers, and love the setup.
I Donated thefultonhow Posted January 1, 2013 I Donated Share Posted January 1, 2013 Woah, hold up. Your "car" field says you have a "GT 2.5i". Which one is it? If it's a 2.5i, you have no UP or DP, just an equal-length header, a cat, and a catback. In which case, just get a catback and you're done. Although I don't really see a point. NavyMan86
I like it... just might think about getting it. I've come to realize that no matter what I do with the exhaust, a Cobb AP is a necessity to adjust to the exhaust. Even though the EGT sensor or whatever goes away, with that different flow, an AP is a must. So that's going to go in to the cost, for sure. So much to read and learn -_-

If you just put on a catback, you do not need a tune. If you replace the UP with an STI one, you can just do the resistor mod. And if you get a DP and/or an aftermarket UP, open-source is a lot cheaper than an AP.
