Spool Study between the VF46 and VF52

BrenTuning

Recommended Posts

We dyno tuned (2) Legacy GT's the same day last year. They had nearly IDENTICAL mods except for one thing (turbo and headers) Both ran the same peak boost and used the exact same ramp rate for spool up which is locked in shootout mode.

The higher graph represents a tuned VF52 car, with Racer X FMIC/intake and stock headers, stock fuel.

The lower graph represents a tuned VF46 car, with Racer X FMIC/intake, stock fuel and unwrapped tubular headers.

A tad too close for a additional consistent 35whp and 48wtq?

Let the results speak for themselves:

Does that mean the VF-46 would have spooled faster if ramp rate were not locked? Humor me, I'm just not familiar with 'shootout mode'. Thanks.

Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs.

Ramp rate is how the load is being applied to the vehicle. Shootout mode puts this into a fixed rate as to not skew the results between different vehicles. In "regular" mode the operator can change this setting manually.

Here's another we just did last week. Baseline is our Stage2 stock tmic tune. Owner's VF40 died out (150k+ mile car). All he did was replace the VF40 with a VF52. There's more in it with the addition of a upgraded intercooler. The stock BPV was leaking pretty bad as well.

Stock fuel on all the cars listed in here.

So it seems to me the VF52 can deliver greater peak numbers above 3000 RPM but you sacrifice spool rate. So more power but also more turbo lag.

Correct?
