Rhitter
Here you go. Everything you need to know. Just a page back. http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4694413&postcount=25 I am kind of embarrassed to admit, but I didn't actually know what that meant. I had looked at those pages from vacation pics a few days ago and didn't know what to do with them. Found a walkthrough on replacing the belts and everything sort of clicked. Hopefully I can fix it all tonight. Thank you! My OBXT build
SBT
Yeah - that's why I included both the "new" and "used" belt deflection measures in that post. Some of us just take the belt off to do the power steering fluid "flush" and then reinstall the belt, while others need to replace both as a preventative/repair measure. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
kzr750r1
Best part of SBT tip is the free play measurement. Not many of us are going to have the tool to measure belt tension.

Thank you, as I lost a lot of fluid due to air being sucked in I might as well just replace the fluid too. Just using Synthetic oil? And not a special power steering fluid? incufan1
I just did the o ring fix and I have a couple questions... First, I believe this to be the right place to do the o ring... http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/17/0f2ad5b13b35f7361d76cd605d1c52c3.jpg Second, is it normal for it to look like this after I drove a few figure 8s? http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/17/809cf7a3104939ced076d4c070b56a87.jpg
incufan1
I had a partner turn the wheel while I watched the P/S fluid reservoir bubble like it was boiling so I opened it back up to make sure the o ring was where it should be. All appears well there, at least to me... Does anyone see anything I screwed up or is it time to start diagnosing further? http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/17/3b9e242d9663a7386792602821b8d616.jpg
incufan1
Solved. Read on another post (that I can't remember) that mentioned putting the o ring IN the PS pump, not ON the nipple. Have it a shot and voila! http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/17/26805b2fada097bfc5204734ad052e01.jpg

mtlonergan
I have replaced this oring. The pump is still pretty moist, so i am not sure if my pump is toast or it is still the oring. Also the rack is moist... What would that locus stuff do to a power stearing system? Anybody know?
mtlonergan
I replaced the oring again today (did it a year ago). I used the OEM one. After tightening down the bolt, i noticed there is still some play in the "flange" (not sure what to call the plastic piece). The bolt side acts like a bit of a pivit point. The pivot was not much, but enough to notice some pressure acting on the fluids that spilled around the flange. I'm going to order a new plastic 90 deg flange thingy. Keep you posted. SBT
ISTR that there's a larger flat-sided ring that goes in there, around the 90* flange, above the O-ring. Smitty's 06 LGT had this. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
mtlonergan
That would make a lot of sense... Thanks SBT. The dealer doesn't show anything there in the 05 model. I did notice in the above pictures the 90° flange looks much different than my 05 LGT.
mkee87
I just replaced my o ring and am getting a horrible noise now.
SBT
Take it off and push the O-ring down into the pump, then insert the connector and bolt it down. Putting in on the connector and then tightening it down seems to cause this. And, after you've fixed the O-ring issue, then slow-cycle your steering wheel lock-to-lock to reprime the pump and clear the air out of the sytem. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
mkee87
I'll give that a try, thanks.
mkee87
I took it off and the power steering pump burped. Works great now
