mike_silvergt
Why didn't I do this sooner? I bought a Mother's clay bar kit for ~$20. Amazingly, it took off blemishes that I thought were scratches! It removed plenty of "rust spots" on the front and side panels and gave the rest of the paint a very smooth feel. Followed up with Meguiars tech wax. Wish I had pictures for you, but it totally renewed my 2005. -Mike
planelazy
I need to do mine too, but my apartment complex doesn't have a wash bay and a lot of car wash places around here don't want you to spend hours in a bay

spritefiend
when i bought my 05 lgt a couple of months ago, clay barring the whole car was one of the first things i did. it originally came from NY, then spend the last few years in SF and i'm not sure it was EVER clay barred.. the entirety of the cars paint felt like sand paper, and when i clay barred it, it turned the white clay bar, DARK ORANGE! probably from all of the sea salt in the air up in SF.. it was disgusting!! 6hrs later, the paint was as good as it could be, washed, claybarred, waxed! ir2005
^^ my 05 lgt was the same way from all the brake dust. previous owner must have thought he was a NASCAR driver and didn't need a car wash. The rear bumper trunk quarter panels and even the plastic splash shields looked like they were rusty especially on silver paint
