Hey guys... im sorta new to this forum and i made a thread a month or two ago for an exhaust mod of straight piping my whole entire exhaust from the dp to the tips. but i'm really curious if my car would sound just like the leggy in this link im putting up with this post just so i can get that rumble of the subaru and yet save some cash for the actual AM cbe because my car is just too quiet. Is it a good idea or wud you recommend something else? And would you run it in your car as well?

Opinions please

My 09 Spec B has had muffler deletes for about 20,000 miles now. It has a custom tune at stage 1 with stock exhaust less mufflers.

It sounds just like that. In fact last night, my sister was following us in her BMW, at diner she told me, she opened her windows so she could hear and enjoy the great sound from my exhaust. BTW, I'm 57 y/o she's 65y/o.

Here's a picture of the tips I had made. They used to be the wagon until it went catless with stock mid pipe, then it was to loud.

Here's the Spec's sound.

Here's the wagon back when it was mufflerless.

wow. your spec b sounds amazing. Did you have any other mods with the Dp or Up while you were at the 20,000 miles you had deletes

How much did the muffler deletes cost?

I think like $200. They cut, bent, flared, welded and the with the chrome tips. They fit into the stock hangers.

I think you answered your owner question,

leave the resonator in.

Or pay to have muffler installed where it came out of.

Disconnect the midpipe from the downpipe. That will give you a good idea on how it would sound without a resonator.

So i disconnected the whole midpipe from the dp... and dam... it sounded like a real subaru... the only problem is i want to keep it like that till i get the muffler and resonator deleted. so here is another question. Is it bad to run an open dp?? Im new to this so bear with me

I was going to say pull of the cans and see how you like the sound. It's a Subaru with a turbo so it will sound good. I went with the hogzawst for now; cheap and easy. Sounds great, not too loud (though I do like the way it sounds canless).

As for worrying about blowing the turbo, I had the same worry. But reading through the forums it's the same as any car, change the oil regularly and it will last. Rotella ftw.

Just a note... i change my oil every 2500 to 3000 miles wil Mobil 1 synthetic oil

car has 116K miles now

116k! I wouldn't worry that the muffler delete would cause the turbo to fail, more like how many miles you have on it. I'm at around 60k on my car, 10k was from me. Rotella every 3000k, now bumped to Subaru's recommended 3725k, prob will push to 4k going forward. I see people running 4k - 10k+ on here between changes, that's crazy talk!

mobil 1 5w-30 is pretty much the worst thing to put in turbo subaru engines, there's articles all over nasioc with oil analysis showing it sheds to a lighter weight than 30 rather quickly, this puts the rod bearings and main engine bearing at risk, and even more so if you run higher power than stock or is you run the car hard stock. rotella t6 5w-40 seems to be the way to go based on analysis', pushing them close to 5k change intervals and the oil maintains its specs.
