dark_thorns
so i was changing the waterpump on my ej25d and since i didn't want to have to mess with my timing i clamped the cam gears together. weeeellll seeing as how they're plastic i broke the driver side can gear and the only ones i can find on ebay are for ej20's and wrx sti's. i've got an ej22 at home but i don't know if either of those would fit on the ej25d and still function right. autozone doesn't carry them and only the subaru dealership would have them and i don't feel like spending up the ass. I Donated broknindarkagain Posted August 23, 2012 I Donated Share Posted August 23, 2012 You're going to have to buy them from the dealer. WRX ones MIGHT fit, but I'm not 100% sure. -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." johnegg
or buy an overheated ej25D with bad head gaskets for about $100 - $150 and use them. you may get lucky with the salvage yard and find one that has a ''core '' engine due to rod knock or a thrown rod and get the parts pretty cheap. just in case , http://www.car-part.com for parts. dark_thorns
damn, i was really hoping that since the cam gear from the ej22 was a perfect fit wasn't actually going to work. it didn't have the magnets on the back for the cam sensor. -.-
johnegg
the intake, top, cam sprocket, driver side on the ej25d and the driver side cam on the ej22 should have the same ''triggers'' on it, but i do not know if the ''key ways'' are a match. if they are, it wil swap.but it will not have the alignment marks for the second, exhaust, cam sprocket. you best bet is to buy the exact ones you need from some one who just swapped out an engine. either bad head gaskets or a thrown rod. dark_thorns
i've still got the exhaust cam gear on the ej25d. the cam gear i pulled off the ej22 fits and has the same diameter and amount of teeth and spacing as the one from the ej25. the only thing i noticed that was different was that the one from the ej25 has magnets on the back, i'm assuming it's got something to do with the cam gear sensor, and the one from the ej22 does not have the magnets on the back. johnegg
the cam sensor is on the driver side. intake cam for the ej25d and of course the only cam on the ej22. both should have lugs/ lobes/ reluctors/ or maybe magnets (never heard of this) on the back to trigger the sensor. the passenger side cams do not have these. the 22 and the 25 should both have the same arrangement on the back side of the cam since both engines will run on either computer. but the exhaust cams on the ej25 or the passenger side cams will not have the reluctors. if the ej22 cam you are using has these it should work. but i would look for and use the correct one if you can. unless you have lots more time than money. there is a pretty big risk of valve damage if you don't get it lined up right. dark_thorns
yea i got it on, timed properly and everything, went to start it up and it started...but it made my heart break when i heard how much pain it was in. i managed to find an imports place that could have one in the morning, it was expensive but only half the price the dealership was asking.
