Excessively hard shifting 96 5MT

My car is a 96 Outback with a 5MT.

I recently put a used transmission in it (trans has 150k on it) about 6 months ago. About a month and a half ago, I put a new Sachs clutch kit and flywheel.

I haven't had any issues since I put everything in, but over the past few days its grown increasingly harder to shift into Reverse and 1st Gear....its to the point now that I simply can not get it into either one of the gears.

I've checked cable adjustment (old school cable style clutch) and it seems to be OK. Gear oil in the transmission has about 10k miles on it and is still full / in good condition.

Any advise?

Other gears are a little hard going in.

I got it figured out. Problems with the damn clutch cable. I wish it was a hydraulic setup

Eh scratch that.

I think the throw out bearing became unclipped from the fork.

This is the 4th damn I'm I've pulled the trans out of this car

Now I'm waiting for a friend to pick up my car with his truck/trailer and tow it to my shop....where I will pull the transmission....for the FOURTH freaking time in 6 months.

And for the record, this clutch kit came from Orielleys less than 4,000 miles ago. This current one replaced the old one that only had 10,000 miles on it (warranty exchange).

I'm beyond pissed.

Was going to suggest the TOB as a potental issue. Check your cable alignment - you may have it extending too far and overdriving the ROM of the TOB arm. Could also just be a structural (age) failure

It felt like the throw out bearing unhooked its self from the fork because when I took off the cables I had 6 inches of play or so.....but everything was intact when I took it apart....just broken.

The dealer has one in stock for $25...I'm just stuck at the shop without a car right now lol.

I'm thinking that was age related.

May be a lesson for all us thinking of keeping our cars till they die.

$25.00 is cheap.
