spritefiend
I'm looking at replacing the clutch on my 2005 LGT. I've read a few things about them and have a couple of questions. Is converting from the dual mass flywheel, anything more than removing it and replacing it with a regular style flywheel? Also, is anyone running an ACT SB5-HDSS & ACT Streetlite Flywheel on a stock/stage 1 map? I'm interested in this one in particular in the event I upgrade to stage 2 or any other power mods down the road, and don't want to be stuck on a stock/oem clutch setup. Thanks! Max Capacity
Yes, it's that simple, use the TorxPlus 50 bit it remove the DMFW. You should get a 07 Legacy FW which is a single mass and use it. I have a Spec LWFW, if I did it again, I'd go with a steel FW. It's easier to drive in a DD. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here
spritefiend
Excellent, thank you for your input on it! I was slightly concerned about a lightweight one on there, especially since my wife will be driving the car as well.
Max Capacity
The main difference I've felt is, it's hard to drive the car in 5th gear below 45mph. The engine feels like is lugging. With the steel FW you can drive at 40mph in 5th with no issues. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). spritefiend
Ohh I see. Did you notice any change in acceleration? Removing half of the rotating weight must have made a bit of a difference I'd imagine.
Max Capacity
No not really. I don't think the average person could tell. I'm pretty sensitive and have a good feel for things. FWIW, My new Spec 2 clutch is much easier to drive than the old Spec 2+ clutch I had for 80,000+ miles. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. ibr_adam09
Glad this thread came up because I have a question. I'm looking to do a replacement on mine as well, but I'm at stage 3 18g with fuel mods and plan to have a "monthly warrior car". I picked up a act lwfw for $60 bucks (looks brand new < 1000 miles) just haven't decided on the clutch itself. I was looking at these two: http://www.infamousperformance.net/servlet/the-882/ACT-Subaru-Legacy-GT/Detail the usual: http://www.infamousperformance.net/servlet/the-137/ACT-Subaru-Legacy-GT/Detail There's a local shop that will buy/install the HDSS with a fluid change for $1050
