ceilingfan
Hey, I'm looking for some guidance on a hard situation... I have an '05 Legacy GT Wagon with a manual transmission and about 130k miles. The clutch failed, and my local trans shop is saying that parts from the clutch damaged the inside of the transmission housing and a new clutch won't seat correctly. So, I need a new transmission. Does this sound plausible? I searched through the forum here and didn't see mention of this happening before. Thanks for any advice you all may have. Max Capacity
TSK3 TOB kit. Sounds like the snout on the tranny may be damaged. In a lot of cases the TSK3 kit can work. They was a post here about 2-3 weeks ago and links to the manufacture of the kit. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). sactojesse
TSK3 TOB kit. Sounds like the snout on the tranny may be damaged. In a lot of cases the TSK3 kit can work. Yup. Grooving of the trans snout/quill is apparently really common. I needed a Tranquil TSK3 kit when I had my clutch replaced. ceilingfan
Thanks for the links to the TSK3 kit. I'll get more exact information from the transmission shop on what has been damaged. He said that "some parts from the clutch wore down the inner wall of the transmission case" is all that I have at this point. Should have some more info on this shortly, and I'll report back. Thanks for helping out.

ceilingfan
Okay I have some more information about what happened. The bearing between the engine and the trans failed and wore off much of the transmission casing snout. I've attached some photos of the damage. Do you think that the TSK3 TOB kit would mount around the damaged snout and keep a new clutch in place? I checked it out, and it looked like there needs to be some of the snout remaining for the tube in the kit to grab onto. There's also a spot on the transmission casing below the snout that has been ground down but not through the case. Not sure if this is an issue or not... Thanks for all your help so far! faded1004
wow... that is bad... sorry to hear that. i think what a few people suggested was to just change the case? someone told me after you take the case apart, the gears are just on skewers? easy to do? might be an option if you have time to try... i installed my kit and it does need to have some... snout left... the sleeve is pretty thin and i would assume you need minimum 60%-75% of the snout left otherwise the bearing won't be supported. also, when i was going to order a new transmission, i ordered it from car-parts.com, the company (there are multiple companies on there) lkq offered to ship for free and gave me a return policy if it didnt' work out for me! how easy is that! anwyays, just wanted to let you know about that option also. in my case, i ordered it. paid nothing (COD) and when it got here, i found the tsk kit so i cancelled it. no cost to me.
