bman
'05 sedan. This morning I tried to unlock the driver's side rear door and neither the inside or outside handle would open it. I tried the driver's power unlock switch and the remote\fob. I could see the door switch wanting to go to the unlock position but it stops before that - still would not open. I tried to flip the lock on the door manually and it moves halfway to the unlock position before stopping. I had no problems opening closing this door last night. HELP! kred
I had the exact same problem with the same door you're talking about. I think it was some kind of a security mechanism that our cars have. After doing some research, I found out that the problem can be solved by disconnecting and reconnecting the positive battery terminal. I tried it one day and at first, it did no good. But then I woke up the next morning, tried to open that door without thinking, and it opened with no problem! I guess that meant it must have been some kind of security feature rather than something like the door latch getting jammed. Let me know how you get the door open later. bman
kred, if what you're saying is true then it's a *serious* safety issue. If I was in an accident I wouldn't be able to get out and\or someone could not get me out. And there was no damage to the door itself. With that in mind, I was thinking it might be the Child Safety Lock was engaged http://www.subarumanuals.org/subaru-434.html but, I would be able to open the door using the outside handle. Which doesn't work in my case.
bman
I didn't have time so I dropped it off (local shop). $50 later he said it was a seized cable. Thanks everyone for their assistance.
