soloz2
The time has come to replace the clutch in my 06 2.5i. It currently has 98k and I purchased it 20k ago. Since day one it's been difficult to drive, but the clutch wasn't slipping... just felt that sometimes there were two different engagement points. I can now tell where it is slipping at times and I do get some chatter. I can also hear a rotational bearing noise/squeak from time to time when the clutch is pushed in. It doesn't happen all the time, but it is getting more frequent and it usually rears it's ugly head when letting the clutch out, not when fully engaged. My mechanic suggested the Exedy clutch kit. I went on their website and it looks like #KSB04 is what I need. Amazon sells it for $154 so I'll probably order from them as I have Prime so shipping is free . What does this kit come with? Do I need to buy a throw out bearing separately? I have seen reference to a $150 snout repair kit. Is this kit necessary for 2.5i's? I thought that was mainly for turbo cars. Is there a cheaper alternative? I also need to know which associated parts I'll need to order. I know I'll need a new main seal between the engine and transmission. Which brand is best? Is that best purchased from the dealer? Do I need to purchase a new flywheel, or get mine resurfaced? I believe my car has a single mass flywheel, but I've also seen people install a WRX or GT flywheel in a 2.5i. What is the purpose/benefit of this replacement/upgrade? What else should I be expecting from this? Osei
Will answer what I can with my experience. Check the items listed with vendor. A throwout bearing usually comes with the kit. You will need the two springs for it tho(dealer item). Kit should also come with a new pilot bearing. Do not need snout repair kit. If you are positive you need a rear main, either OEM or Fel-pro would be my choice. flywheel resurfacing may be needed. Check the condition upon removal. Some do as a matter of course. I haven't had to. For your power levels a wrx or GT flywheel is unnecessary. Looks like its time for t belt, pulleys and water pump also.(105K expected life). Check screws on back of oil pump, and new o ring and front seal for it. O.
soloz2
Thanks for the input. I asked my mechanic and he said that the kit comes with everything needed and he only resurfaces the flywheel if necessary. I'll probably order the clutch kit when I get paid next week and schedule an appointment. I am going to wait a bit for the timing belt. I don't really have funds for both right now and at the rate I put miles on I have 6 months or so. I prob won't wait that long though. Osei
Thanks for the input. I asked my mechanic and he said that the kit comes with everything needed ..... Believe me, the springs are not included. Get them from the dealer before your order comes in. TheImportExperts or Mizumoto, both on Ebay, have great prices for t belt kits. I would try to find the funds ($200) now, for you'll only have to pay for the labor to do it again, in addition to the coolant needed. Not to mention it's so much easier while the engine is out. O. soloz2
What springs are you referring to? Do you have a pn? I agree if the engine is coming out then the timing belt etc makes sense. I believe he is going to pull the tranny. compsurge
Don't do the real main unless it is leaking. If the '06 2.5i is a dual mass flywheel, get a single mass with a matching clutch kit. You cannot reuse a dual mass flywheel.
Osei
For ref.: http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b12/type_1/ part #30539AA0000 (#4) Don't believe the 2.5 I uses a dual mass flywheel. GEE-OTTO
DMFW only in the turbo models for the USDM. KSB04 is the right kit. The springs are for the TOB. If the rear Mai. Isn't leaking that doesn't mean it won't in 15K miles. The about kit (TSK1) is only needed if your trans snout is damaged. Make sure to inspect the flywheel if it is hotspotted just buy a new one the wrx, lgt, 2.5i use the same one.
soloz2
Ordered the exedy kit from amazon this morning. I plan to drop my car off Sunday night at my mechanics. He said anything else I need he'll source. soloz2
Picked my car up last night. Much better now. The clutch disk was pretty worn and there were some hot spots on the pressure plate. My mechanic said no need to replace the flywheel. It drives much better now. Just need to get used to a single engagement point and an easier to push down pedal. New clutch for me was tricky b/c it grabbed so fast took a dozen takeoffs to acclimate
