DerekDaniel
If you put an upgraded aftermarket oem size fmic like mishimoto, would it require a tune since its same size? I know bigger or different dimension FMICs need a tune but what about this case......... Just a thought....from googling and reading up. Or would an upgraded (better quality) oem size FMIC be a waste of money?
kjohnson
I'm gonna go out on a limb (but not that far out) and say yes, a tune is recommended. You're adding a good deal of pipe that will change the way your engine can take in the air and how fast the turbo builds boost, and would have some effect on the intake temp. I would get it tuned if I were you.

iNVAR
You shouldn't need a tune but you won't benefit as much from it without one. You'll still get the benefit of reduction of heatsoak even without a tune.

SurlyOldManMN
Generally speaking, if you made a change to the engine with the intention of making more power but it doesn't make enough of a difference to bother with a tune, it probably isn't worth the money. MatsuDano
It might be the same size in area, but with a higher fin density and different materials a tune will have a much better gain than just bolting it on. Is it necessary? No. Is it always recommended? Hell to the yes. To that end, I have to ask what other mods you have? If you are running a stage 2 tune, with some high boost you will probably want to get it returned. If you are stock, then I have to question why you got an upgraded intercooler at all? Last, which model did you get? The general concensus is that the FMS top mount that is a clone of the AVO/Perrin design has about the same capabilities of stock, with one of the only real benefits being non-plastic endtanks. DerekDaniel
Hey Mom I have a reason to my madness!!!!! In the spring I am going to put on a DP so I will be gettin retuned. I just got the tmic so when I put DP on I will be able to maximize it. I was also thinking of putting a better fmic on. Not a bigger fmic, just something a little beefier and better made than stock, and better hoses. I didnt know if something so subtle would need tuned for. But if needs tune I will do with DP and get done at same time I dont want a fmic that is going to require removal of fog lights etc.
