Ordered Some New Wheels for the Prius...

Recommended Posts

So I ordered a set of Forgestar F14s for my Prius last week through a NASIOC vendor, Moore Performance Parts. Should take about 3 to 4 weeks for them to arrive. I can't wait for them to come in!

Forgestar F14

- 18x8.5

- +48

- Textured Gunmetal

Here is what they look like on a Prius, http://carsxhype.com/2012/03/25/not-your-average-tree-huggers-car/#more-19007

Here is how my Prius sits on Rota G-Forces:

The only way I could get some type of concave going on. I'll be running 215/40, same width as stock. I'm toying with the thought of running 225/40, I want to avoid the rubber band look as much as possible.

215's on an 8.5" rim?

You've fallen far from the tree of sanity.

Those g-forces are heavy.. I believe the forgestar wheels are much lighter so that's nice. I remember the sale thread, good looking wheel.

Great vendor btw, Moore Performance. Def who you want to use in Pittsburgh for your Subaru service/installs.

 Yea, I'm a bit iffy on running them (215/40) because of the amount of stretch and lack of wheel lip protection.

They don't look too bad on these though...

Meh, not my style.

The stretch that is, not the wheels. The wheels are awesome, and Forgestar makes some INCREDIBLE wheels.

I'm not a fan of the stretch either. I'm willing to do 225/40 with confidence that it won't rub. Only hold back is loss of MPG. At first I didn't care that my MPG took a hit because gas was more than 1/2 what I was paying to feed my LGT. Now that I'm averaging 57 MPG, I'm starting to warm up to getting high scores in the MPG area.

225 vs 215 can't possibly make a noticeable difference in MPGs, especially if the new wheels are lighter to boot...

Plus, it doesn't matter how much gas you're saving if you blow out a tire--goodbye savings + A LOT.

Not currently in stock :(

I think I'm sold on ordering some 225/40s

245s rub on my Prius with 18x8.5, +48 AND lowered :( I had them on for a few thousand miles and it equated to 45MPG. Actually, that isn't that bad of a loss at all. Maybe I could swing 235/40s...

Haha, how many sets of tires do you go through? 245s, 215s, 225s

Just two sets :) I'm still on my factory issued 17's and have the 245s on my 18's. I have 62,000 miles on my car now.

Will be on a third set of tires with these new wheels.

I thought the point of a prius was gas mileage. 245's on a prius????

I see many a prius doing 80 on the highway....Owners are not being very "green" are they when they drive that fast.

"In spring-like temperatures with no wind, Sdtundra's numbers are pretty close. The Prius MPG Simulator predicts 41.4 MPG at 80 MPH in 70F temperatures. That assumes near perfect conditions: steady speed, dry pavement, level terrain, no wind, 300# load (occupant and cargo), windows closed, no climate control used (or on vent), and Goodyear Integrity tires inflated to 44 front/42 rear.

If it's routinely windy in your part of NJ (e.g., near the coast), expect poorer results. A wind as light as 5 MPH (head- or cross-) will drop it to about 38 MPG at 70F.

Look for a drop in the winter: The simulator predicts 35.2 MPG at 30F (no wind). This assumes climate control on automatic with thermostat set to 72. All other variables remain the same.

Other factors that will reduce it further: continually speeding up and slowing down, hills, short trips, precipitation and wet pavement, heavier loads, lower air pressure, etc. You could easily get in the low 30s if the right combination of adverse factors is at work.

The 245s came with the wheels when I traded for them. If I was gonna buy tires they definitely wouldn't be 245s.

Yes, going bigger wheels will affect mpg but I get what I need out of the Prius. I'm not getting anywhere close to 22mpg or paying for premium fuel. I do 130 miles a day easily

Owners are not being very "green": I thought the point of a Prius was to make the owner feel green based on reading that the ecological damage mining rare source materials that went into building it will not be compensated for in its fuel economy.

Might as well run 245s.:spin:
