Honda NSX, whats your opinion on it?

Recommended Posts

Still the stuff wet dreams are made of. Or at least the car kind.

Somewhere in the past I thought I read that the NSX is one of the most balanced and neutral handling cars ever made. After all, this guy has no issues with it at speed.

I saw one in black that was mint looking the other day. I followed it like it was a Bugatti or something.

It has a style that was unreal 20 years ago and is still damn sexy.

I wanted to pull the guy over and ask what had kept it on the road so long.

I think it was the awesome HKS exhaust that he had on it. Sounded like a race car and looked the part.

It's not the fastest thing on the road today but that's not the point. Driving excitement is where it's at.

A twin turbo supra OR an NSX handed to me would be a tough choice

Just because you are a character, doesn't mean that you have character.

Unbelievable car. I've been watching videos of that thing since I was a little tike, and have always been in love with it. Like some said above, it's supposed to be one of the most well balanced cars out there. 20k around here can get you a nice one.

They are molestable as well.

Have you seen the possible future replacement for it?

Looks fantastic IMO. Don't know I feel about the whole hybrid AWD system. It's pretty clever, but will probably have a negative impact on the driving experience.

I hope the final version doesn't look like that concept car. Just looks too much of an R8 rip-off. But, considering the NSX looked too much like a Ferrari to begin with, I suppose it goes along with the design philosophy

I have always liked the NSX, looks great, handles great it just lacks horsepower IMO. Even in the late 90s 290hp wasn't much for a car that costs 90,000 dollars. I mean there are 25,000 dollar cars with more power and even a better powerband.

The NSX was not a straight line racer, I know this but if I bought a 90k car and was at an intersection that the road goes to one lane shortly after it and I can't pass some D-bag in his camaro or mustang I would feel a bit let down, but that is just me.

Mustangs of the late 90s only have 210hp and are a lot heavier than the NSX. If you can't pass a mustang in an NSX, it's not the car's fault.

I do agree though that it would benefit from a little bit more power.

Well as for mustangs I was refering to the cobras which still had over 300hp. The NSX was not super light, it was still a 3100lbs car and those stangs were only 3300-3400. I would have to call that a drivers race.

For me the similarity goes beyond just similar body style. Take the wing off, squish the front headlights and it's an R8

It's actually the headlights on the concept NSX that made me think of the R8

My automotive ignorance is about to show, but I never quite understood what the big deal was with the NSX. For that price, wasn't it lacking?

In certain areas yes, it was lacking. Mostly when it comes to power and interior quality, but it makes up most of what it lacks in those areas with its amazing handling characteristics. It's also a very rare car which makes it more desirable.

There are obvious differences between the nsx concept and r8 but there are also obvious similarities.

agreed.

I always loved this crazy japanese video where a 92 typhoon smokes a nsx auto and the guy driving the typhoon doesn't even know how to launch it and actually has to play a little catch up with the nsx.

So can we talk about the similarities then so that I can be right?

Sure:lol:

I sure as hell didnt give them any respect when I was younger. There was a kid whose parents gave him one at my high school and a few others who drove there parents NSXs every now and then and my shit brown 79 malibu with a 355 and side pipes would hang right there with em. But as a grew older and dated a girl whose dad owned 2 and got to drive very nice low miles examples my respect grew.

i've always been a fan of the nsx from a engineering and technical standpoint, it was a primary example of all that can be for a motor vehicle when designed without limits. while not the fastest machine ever built and what not. i respect the amount of detail and precision that went into its creation and manufacturing. i think the only other vehicle that is designed in the same light is the new mclaren mp4-12c.
