brokentv
I just finished changing the valve cover gaskets. When I went to start the car it started and ran perfect with no check engine light. I turned it off then tried restarting one more time, not even sure why because everything seemed fine the first time, and it just clicked and went silent. So I threw on the battery charger and the car started right up. Does this sound like a old dead battery that needs to be replaced? When doing the driver side valve cover I had to disconnect and remove the battery but I did make sure and double check that everything was re-installed right. Sorry to make a post on a dead battery if that's the case but after all that work it hurts when the car wont start.
Jippi
sounds like a dead battery or a loose battery connection.
brokentv
I also just realized after making this thread that apparently there is some sort of security system that needs to be reset if you remove the battery. There is even a warning sticker under the hood by the battery talking about this. I've found many explanations on how to do this but they all require using some button under the steering wheel area but I cant find any button. The closest thing I found is some wire that has been clipped. I'm just wondering if my starting problem has to do with this security thing. If this is the case is there an alternative way of resetting the security system that doesn't require holding the reset button.
SpecBamf41
your car clicks, where the clicking coming from? if its coming from the started you plunger contacts are worn and not making good connect any more, its happened to me twice BNR18g on 93oct
brokentv
So far the problem seems to have been the battery. I took the battery to get tested and the guy said it was done. Bought a new one and everything seems fine.
Kennyfvholla
When you remove the battery for any extened amount of time for more than 10 minutes or so, the ECU and it monitors related to emissions control has discharged completely. Stored information (like CE codes) is lost and monitoring components have to reset, and that takes a full drive cycle to do and give correct readouts to the ECU. Any manual, electrical alterations (like switching the shifter position or hitting the brakes) affects the drive cycle. You need not worry about anything unless you're trying to get it inspected or whatnot...
