DoDo1975
What gaskets will I need to do a short block swap. Since the short block gaskets are already in place, is there many; or just a few. Am I better off just buying the overhaul gasket set?
Max Capacity
You buy the gasket set for the year of the heads. That's what bmx045 told me when I put the new ej257 in my 05. Hint the set doesn't have all the pieces. check my thread, "Got some new stuff for engine R&R" it's in this forum. found it, http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/got-some-new-stuff-engine-r-r-184106.html 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here
bmx045
you buy the gasket kit for your model year car. even if you buy a shortblock assembled you'll still need a good amount of the ones included in the kit. so yes, i 110% recommend buying the kit. you'll need new cam seals, head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, etc.... the list goes on. bmx045
The quality of your tune plays as crucial of a role on longevity as does doing proper oil changes.
