turbo970
so i got the subie to my folks house so the mobile mechanic can take a look at it. i put a fresh battery in it and it fired up for roughly 10 mins then died. i drove it around the drive way and when i gave it throttle it would bog down and almost die til i took my foot off the throttle. then it just died with out warning. any ideas? USLiberty
Is your battery dying at all or is it charging(14.4v)?
turbo970
still charging and had a freshly charged battery.
compsurge
Does it have a MAF sensor? If so, try cleaning it. Also look for vacuum leaks.
turbo970
it has a maf and has been cleaned and even put some of that die electric grease in the connector to make sure there was a good connection. some one on another forum told me to unhook my coolant temp switch and try starting the car. and another said i could have a weak alternator
monkeyposeur
Check your air intake for loose clamps or vacuum leaks. Give your turbo inlet elbow a good look over, they like to crack.
turbo970
well i did more testing and the alt was not as good as i first tested. i think its dead i'll find out for sure tomorrow. i found out the car will start right up with a freshly charged battery but after that i have to let the starter crank for almost a minute before it will fire and run. longer it ran today the lower the voltage at the battery got. started at 12.55 and by the time i shut the car off it was down to 12.22 volts. does the car need the 14.4v to make everything run well? monkeyposeur
Hopefully that fixes it. I know how you feel. As soon as I bought my turbo leggy the head gaskets went. Also I noticed in another thread that you need a turbo inlet elbow. That sucks! I had the same problem. I was really lucky and found what was probably the last new one left. But I am going to just build a new one soon. My new one is ripping at one of the PCV connections already!!!

turbo970
update: alt was tested and was good. i replace the jumper from the alt to the battery. still takes a bit to start. i noticed when starting it i have to floor the throttle and crank a bit in order for it to start. when it does start it idles real low and choppy then after a few it runs fine til i put it in drive and give it gas and it bogs down
