famaya26
Every morning for the past three months my car has been making a fluttering noise. Bad turbo? Only happens in the morning, every other time during the day, car starts up without the noise. Gonna take a video tomorrow morning.
polyarkos
Have you done an oil change recently? Just got my oil and filter done and I think they've used the wrong oil. Same symptoms as you but only when its really cold (0 degrees Celsius or less)
scoobydoobie
Not a bad turbo... My guess is it is normal boxer engine cold start noise and you should stop worrying. But go ahead and post the video.
Moderators BarManBean Posted July 11, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 11, 2012 I also believe this is normal. Was evident on my '09 5MT on cold starts. Didn't hear in much on the '05 5EAT until I changed out the catted UP for a catless one. Now I hear it on cold starts again. Like scooby said, go ahead and post the video but I don't think you need to lose sleep over it. jarnaud
It could be the TGV activating. I have noticed the TGV making some noise on mine for 30 seconds or so on startup until it starts to move out of the way.
famaya26
Here's a video of what it sounds like guys. Sorry about the delay. dryvby
Sounds like normal valve train noise. Or a slight exhaust leak.
Rester5350
My 06 OBXT 5eat suffers from the same sound. At first i thought it was a heat shield but after checking them I dont think it is. Good to hear that it's not a problem.
famaya26
Ok so I got a recording from under the car. Taking the car to cobb tuning to have them look at it. Hopefully they won't charge much and it's not a bad thing. Your opinion would be great. Seems like it might be a Rod knock. The noise only happens on the morning startup after the car has been off overnight. Currently at 124900 miles. Using Rotella 6 5w-40 with OEM filter. STi Catless UP and everything else is stock. Video was taken with phone under car by front driver side door [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACVN0abN6pk&feature=youtube_gdata_player]05 Legacy GT noise on Start Up - YouTube[/ame] This was taken this morning, I placed the phone on the intake tube by grill.
