travgag
S0 my 97 legacy outback, with a 2.5 of course, had symptoms of blown headgaskets, (over pressurising of the collant system) The car has 247 000 k and these arent stock head gaskets right ? and do they look blown ? just wondering Also the car had dexcool in it, that made me think that the head gaskets had been done before and they changed the coolant type, should I stick with dexcool ? or swap it, ive heard bad things about deathcool lol thanks http://www.valleyeastringette.com/head4.jpg http://legacygt.com/forums/www.valleyeastringette.com/head4.jpg http://legacygt.com/forums/S0%20my%2097%20legacy%20outback,%20with%20a%202.5%20of%20course,%20had%20symptoms%20of%20blown%20headgaskets,%20%28over%20pressurising%20of%20the%20collant%20system%29%20%20The%20car%20has%20247%20000%20and%20these%20arent%20stock%20head%20gaskets%20right%20?%20and%20do%20they%20look%20blown%20?%20just%20wondering%20%20Also%20the%20car%20had%20dexcool%20in%20it,%20that%20made%20me%20think%20that%20the%20head%20gaskets%20had%20been%20done%20before%20and%20they%20changed%20the%20coolant%20type,%20should%20I%20stick%20with%20dexcool%20?%20or%20swap%20it,%20ive%20heard%20bad%20things%20about%20deathcool%20lol%20%20thanks http://www.valleyeastringette.com/head3.jpg http://www.valleyeastringette.com/head2.jpg http://www.valleyeastringette.com/head1.jpg

I Donated broknindarkagain Posted July 10, 2012 I Donated Share Posted July 10, 2012 Whoever put dexcool in a Subaru is a fking idiot. Flush the hell out of it. Get as much out as you can and use extended life coolant. -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." monkeyposeur
Have them do a valve job at the same time so your clearances are to spec, right?

GTTuner
Watch the surface roughness when you have them machined. MLS gaskets need a nice smooth surface.
JJay03
Mine were pretty rough after resurfacing I sanded them with some 600 on a block after hopefully it was enough. I did use new head bolts also.
