That $2000 implies you have advanced mechanical knowledge, skills, tools, which you don't (the first rule is if you have to ask, you don't). Shops generally sell built transmissions for $4000, though that price has never sat very well with me. If they're also doing the R&R from the car, and provide a warranty, then maybe that's better.
