LegacyDan
So my car has been tuned with the assumption I use 99 octane fuel in evert fill up. Since we are expanding our premises in work I am working more than not away from any gas stations that stock 99. Last few top ups have been with 95 octane. I have not been driving too much last few weeks with vacation and hospitals visits so i haven't been able to open her up and see how it runs on 95 and if my knock detector is seeing any knock. Would it be OK to use 95 occasionally and drive it in normally or should I stay off boost when using 95?
cypher0117
I once put 89 in my car (tuned for 91). And my IAM dropped to .875 and was adding fuel pretty much everywhere to try and correct for knock. I even stayed out of boost. Would probably be safest to retune to an octane you have readily available everywhere you go. But you could get by in a pinch with
No DRFT
Why not get two different maps for the fueling? Switch maps when you fill up with 95. I have no control over drippie.
LegacyDan
thats one option, is there a way you can tune the eco mode to act like that, so when i turn it on its on 95 map and when off on normal 99?
No DRFT
I wouldn't know. I would ask a tuner and find out from them. It seems like a feasible way to get it done. I have no control over drippie.
m sprank
Gonna need two maps. Flash when filling up. Not safe to run 95 on a 99 tune.
LegacyDan
thats what i was guessing, i need to find out if the Eco mode button can be used for this. Do US ones have the eco button? very rare i use 95 only if i think i cant make it to 99 stuff without running out of gas so it would only be 10/20 dollars to get me out of a pickle. still better safe than sorry, or another rebuild! m sprank
No "eco" button on USDM. If it were an emergency, just stay out of boost. Be as nice as possible to the throttle. You just dont want to make a habit of it.
