96brighton
Does this sound familiar to anyone? My Brighton started hesitating recently and now has no spark on the rear right cylinder. I changed the coil/ igniter to no avail. I checked the plugs and wires but that wasn't the problem. Your suggestions are appreciated. Drove it with 3 pots to my local mechanic and the front catalytic converter got so hot from burning off the raw gas that I thought the car was about to go up. Still hoping someone has an idea what is causing the lack of spark.
ehsnils
Not sure about that car - but if you have the coils on the manifold and not individual coils then it can be the high voltage cable between coil and spark plug that has a crack. And it can be a bad spark plug too.
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted June 30, 2012 I Donated Share Posted June 30, 2012 How did you check the plugs and wires? Have you done a compression test and checked to make sure the timing belt didnt jump? -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." 96brighton
Thanks for your suggestions. It turns out it was running on two not three cylinders which explains the severe drop in power and heating up of the cat. My local mechanic replaced the ignition module located on the firewall (badly corroded) and all is well. My daughter is relieved as this is her freedom machine. The part was extracted from a similar model about to be crushed for it's steel content. Whew.
