bemani Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Anyone have a suggestion for a boost gauge that matches the look of the red/blue color gauges?
axis008 Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Several people and myself have suggested Defi BF gauges. I heard someone talk about VDO gauges? -ben

Guest *Jedimaster* Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Then you suck at the internet. This has already been discussed. /NASICOCK flashback moment. Where's Drift_monkey when we need him?
axis008 Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Just went around NASIOC. Saw this in one of the posts: High res. link (1.6MB), Low res. link (100KB) - Defi is coming out with the BF gauge in an red/amber color, similar to that of the Legacy and STi. -ben
bemani Posted July 9, 2004 Author Posted July 9, 2004 I want something with blueish white color for the numbers and such to match though.
axis008 Posted July 9, 2004 Posted July 9, 2004 What do you think of the current Defi BF gauges? They fit that description, sort of, right? -ben
bemani Posted July 9, 2004 Author Posted July 9, 2004 I've seen the pictures and the colors seem to match, but do they have the electroluminescent like the Legacy?
CombatCQB Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 IIRC, the Legacy gauges are made by Defi right? I just can't spend the money on Defi gauges.
brady_bunch Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 Here's the STi Genome boost gauge for the JDM market. It's a Defi:
axis008 Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 Actually that's the regular kind! Let me find a picture of the STI genome. -ben
axis008 Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 I remember someone on some forum buying this expecting it to match his STi interior, but it didn't. I don't remember what colors it showed, I will try to find out. -ben
brady_bunch Posted July 11, 2004 Posted July 11, 2004 Where would you mount it and keep the classy overall look of the Legacy interior? That's my struggle right now.
Guest *Jedimaster* Posted July 11, 2004 Posted July 11, 2004 Mine too- I want a boost gauge- prefereably one is psi- and I want it to look like it belongs there.
Deer Killer Posted July 11, 2004 Posted July 11, 2004 What's looking better and better is LCD based guages.. Ecutek has a product like this, but I bet the CAN bus outputs are easy enough to decode, if someone wants. So a cheap LCD screen + an old laptop + CAN interface. It should be able to make the right color/type gauges on the LCD screen for all ECU monitored sensors, plus it can be an MP3 jukebox and NAV unit. Just need some open source software :) The Defi BF gauge is close, but there is really no where good to put it, plus it's expensive..
InterCooled Posted July 11, 2004 Posted July 11, 2004 The Defi gauges are probably the best on the market.....but the most expensive as well. Another really good alternative is Autometer. http://www.autometer.com/ My favourite is the Cobalt series but these gauges run around $200 US. I still consider that expensive for a gauge but you get what you pay for. Usually they have a better accuracy. If that is still to much, they have some $50-80 gauges that will work just fine.
Rimfaxe Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 a note of caution regarding the front A pillar- the side curtain airbags go at least halfway down the A pillar. I noticed this when they changed mine out as part of the recall. Not sure where to mount any additional gauges unless it was in a pod on the dash somewhere. Rimfaxe

It is hard to explain. You can see here what I mean. http://hp.autometer.com/products/mounting_solutions/inst_clust_import/inst_clust_import.html Picture is small, but you get the idea. As of yet there isn't a mount for the 05 Leg. There are some center panels that might work though.
agctr Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 Im sticking with u Deer, instead of drilling or placing a boost guage that doesnt fit in, I would go the LCD option especially if Subaru were to bring out the SatNav system. It shouldnt be too hard to hook up the Boost into that system once u had a menu up and running.
cc-b Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 STi Genome makes a gauge panel for 3 gauges that fits the cubbyhole above the information display.
