I'm not going about it, because, honestly, I'm still in shock. I've 2 dead cars and 2 racecars. I couldn't afford 1 race car, so there's no way I can afford two. As much as owning this car has been a dream since I first heard about it, the reality of actually racing it is daunting.

The last time I scared myself silly on a track, was driving my wagon. This one has a much higher capability. I had already planned to take a year off from racing to get my health back (surprisingly bad low speed collision last fall), so buying this car was not in the plan. Life happens...

New plan is to swap the street car's motor into the racecar. Then buy a used engine to put in street car and sell the midget car. The street car returns to a daily driver. Still need to sell the Miata racecar, too; which would pay for at most 6 months of racing the wagon assuming nothing goes wrong.

Swapping the streetcar motor into the racecar incurs the additional issue of re-tuning, something I'd like to get right and I don't have a tuner I can trust at the moment. Or I could swap everything straight across (engine, tmic, turbo, ecu) and run the streetcar motor as is because it makes the right amount of horsepower for the class. Or I could put the junkyard motor into the racecar and run it until it blows up.

Working on a deal to get a master tech out to help with the engine rebuild & drop into the streetcar in July. It was one thing to drink a few beers and make a few mistakes pulling the engine. Putting it back and getting it wrong again is more money I don't have. Getting 1 working car out of the deal is important. Putting the streetcar motor back in the street car means I can get rid of a car, which frees up cash.

More questions? :-)

Among many things I need to learn how to do on the racecar - http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2669658

Looks like of the ppl on that thread lives nearby, or least they did. Need to look them up.

Probably should create a new thread, rather than wreck this one or the original racecar thread. I have so much stuff to learn before putting the racecar back on track.

AN fittings and braided lines?

I worked as a mechanic at an electric utility for 30 years. I was a certified mobile fluid power specialist. Hydraulic systems.

Easy Squeezy.

No pain.

No stain.

Well, except if you are careless with the stray ends of the wire braid when cutting the hoses. The wires will puncture your fingers mercilessly.

It smarts.

And the blood stains.

Maybe you've never heard of me? You know that long list of "don't do's" that come with every "better solution" and you wonder who comes up with that list? Yeah I used to wonder, too. Not any more.

If you are ever every interested in helping a racer skip that learning period, I'll buy you a beer or two afterwards.

There is always that possibility.

But afterwards might also involve during.

The HG thread is closed, as it finally ran. Picture attached for proof.

I'm committed to getting the race wagon running. And have several engines needing HG replacements. Hoping I can learn enough from doing those to figure out why this one failed so fast. It didn't even last 24 hours before I got the telltale white vapor.

The JDM front sport bumper looks really good. The 2-off rear taillights look great, the other set is on a show car in Japan. The v25b heads with Ferraro valves and titanium bits sounds really good and very smooth, with much less clatter than before.

The custom HKC-speed quad bi-xenon lighting upgrade is done, but not installed. The JDM black interior is waiting for install. The Nexus upgrade is sitting in a box, along with SpecB navigation system.

Some day...

How much have you let the car run since the HG change?

Do you have other signs of HG failure besides white exhaust?

If the HG failure is true it is most likely due to non-clean and/or non-flat mating surfaces.

Were the heads decked prior to install?

Did you ensure the block surface was flat?

What method did you use to clean the mating surfaces prior to install?

These are all things to think about if it is a HG failure.

The car is down on power. White vapor is getting worse not better. Have about 50 miles on it, max.

Heads are fresh build and flat.

Deck was flat. I didn't check before putting on heads, so may no longer be.

OEM hg instead of cosmic hg, which may be too thin.

The wagon goes into Drive Auto on Monday. They are All Wheel Auto's performance shop. They did a partial teardown and cleanup on Fjuan's motor, which is poised to be installed in the racewagon. They also built the motor for Kip's wagon.

They're going to figure out where my hg replacement went awry. I have my suspicions, however, the second opinion will indicate whether I'm learning or floundering.

Sounds like you are having similar feelings about your wagon as mine. It's been sitting undriven for the better part of the last year so I too started buying parts for it...clutch replacement is soon to come, followed by front end rebuild. Might be road worthy by April-ish.

Put it on the charger all day. It started up. Sounds like a exhaust leak is happening.

Going shopping for an f450 to replace it. Ive always wanted a beefy pickup. 4doors, 4x4, dually, 8 foot bed and 25000 lbs towing capacity. The turbo diesel that's problematic is icing on the cake.
