My cable jack is on the wall opposite of where I want it in the living room. So I tell my leasing office that there is a jack in the bedroom, right on the other side of the common wall that I want the jack on. So they say, "Sure! No problem! We can split it to the other side of the wall!"

So I come home from work today to find this, which is exactly what I wanted. Yay!

...but then I see the note left by the maintenance guy saying, "Ran into structural issue. If this does not work for you, call the office and we will attempt to remedy it."

Uh oh...

So I walk into the bedroom to find this:

LOL. Wtf?! That looks like a 6-year-old's solution to the problem!

Tiling our mudroom floor and landing tomorrow. I've tiled a backsplash, granite counter, and a fire place hearth before... But this is my first floor. Exciting times. :)

Drank too much last night. No use of power tools for me today. :)

I'm working on the last part of the basement partition today: my fiance's seasonal storage closet. Wall is framed, outside is drywalled, inside is drywalled except for above the door frame, mudded above the doorframe on the outside. When that mud dries, I'll install the door. I also decided that I'm going to be a lazy-ass and not mud the corners inside the closet where I installed the drywall, because ain't nobody got time for dat, and she wants to start using the closet.

I don't understand why they didn't put the second (requested) cable outlet *exactly* on the opposite side of the wall... why move it down 3 feet? You're definitely going to hit at least 2 studs in the way... put it on the opposite side of the wall and you should be in the same stud cavity. :spin:

Yeah, the entire apartment has all electrical and cable outlets sideways for some reason. I assume that is an aesthetic decision (the building is only 10 years old.)

As for this "structural issue" I'm not sure what happened. I pulled the outlet in the bedroom and looked inside and there is clearly a giant 3/4" or so hole from where he started drilling through the plywood in the wall. I could stick my screwdriver all the way into it and couldn't even get to the end of it. The wall must be really thick. I'm starting to think "structural issue" was just "my drill bit wasn't long enough."

I also don't understand WTF they did. I wish they would have called me first because if they were going to do that, I'd at LEAST have them put the jack in the living room directly across from where he ended up feeding that external line into the wall, which would have saved him the trouble of fishing it BACK to where I wanted it, and would have resulted in that outlet actually being BEHIND the entertainment center, which would have been even better. I don't understand at ALL WTF happened here, though.

I might just try to find someone in the area who knows this stuff, and have them come here unbeknownst to the office, and see if he can fix it for free. I really can't understand what "structural issue" there was?! Maybe there really is something, but I don't know what. I'm handy enough that if it was my own house I'd just do it myself, but I figure if I can just find an "expert" in the area, maybe they can tell me WTF the guy was trying to do. Too bad I know exactly ZERO people in this part of the country, lol, much less a cable guy.

Got some pictars for ya.

First one is the closet I built this weekend. Obviously not totally done, but done enough that it can be used as a closet, including having a 2x2 lay-in fixture inside (powered by the switch in the unpainted part of the wall to the left of the door). Dunno why I procrastinated so long on it. It was super easy to build.

Second is my office/mancave, painted dark gray. The color looks great in person. I thought it might be too dark for a basement, but I think the contrast with the light floor and ceiling is great. I am planning on replacing the floor with a light-colored wood laminate later on.

Looks great!

Thanks! :)

Those are some high outlets!

Yep, did that on purpose. This room's primary purpose is as a technology workshop area. I have my desktop setup on one of those walls (as you can see), and the other wall with the high-mounted outlets has space for my freelance computer repair work. Each of the outlets has a 6-port on-outlet surge suppressor, plus there are two ethernet jacks to the right of each of those. I also have the every-12-feet outlets around the other walls, as required by code.

I love remodeling. My home in CO was brand new when we bought it. I hired for the larger jobs, but I did as much as I could by myself.

The last project before I moved:

Completed structure:

Stone veneer on and flowers planted:

Ripped up that old grass and extended it all the way to the back fence. It's the way the house should've come.

If I was staying there, I would've removed that tree in the middle of the grass and put it somewhere else.

Figured, as I know you work in IT. My buddy's company has them a bit lower. It's your man cave/office though! I like the color too.

Yeah, my new office/workbench at work has them lower, too. Lower works better for laptops, higher works better for desktops. IMO, of course. I work mostly on laptops at work, and about half-and-half laptops/desktops at home.

I like the color too.

Thanks!

Removed ~400 sq ft of river rock

All tilled:

All sodded:

Once it rooted after a few months

That sod, on both sides, was formulated specifically for the Colorado climate. I was so thrilled with how it looked. It was the first yard on the block that was green in the spring and stayed green during the hot and dry summer months. I know there are a lot of members here from CO. It was simply the best. Got it from greenvalleyturf.
