camoe
Hello, Lurking for awhile and while searching found that the 5EAT transmission is the same as the one Infinity uses. As such, the Infinity auto transmission will rev match when you manually downshift. Does the LegacyGT's auto do the same? Thanks Peace
Slickvic
Honestly I havent paid that much attention as I am concentrating on the road when I am driving in a spirited fashion. That said I can confirm that downshifts never feel forced or jarring as in other vehicles so it is possible. There are several other active members here who can probably answer this more presisely. melayout
No it doesn't rev match. Downshift from 3rd to 2nd at about 50MPH and you will see what I'm talking about. I usually blip the throttle while it downshifts and most of the time I get a flawless shift. I keed I keeed
legacy_y_tu
Can't say I've really noticed. I do usualy blip the throttle though just as I downshift to avoid drivetrain jarring.....old habit I guess not because I've noticed any bad downshifts. I'll have to give it a whirl tonight and see. fzanetti
Is the 5EAT the same trannie as the Inifiniti one???? Where did you get that info man??? I am curious to see that... Thanks Flavio Zanetti Boston, MA
camoe
Is the 5EAT the same trannie as the Inifiniti one???? Where did you get that info man??? I am curious to see that... Thanks Flavio Zanetti Boston, MA I'm not sure where in this forum I found that (searching and reading over a couple of weeks) info but someone posting about AWD tech differences between the MT and AT described that both subaru and infiniti outsource the AT from JATCO, I believe. Being that, it would seem feasable to program the ECU similar to the G35 AT which does rev match on the downshift. Granted, there is a manual mode for this operation which "melayout" already described...blipping the throttle..however that would be a cool feature for the AT to do it automatically. Thanks all for the responses. Peace
fzanetti
Yo Camoe, Tx for your words man... A friend of mine would be happy with this post, once when we test drove a G35 auto and he saw the rev matching on downshifts he was wondering if it would do it on his LGT... JATCO, nice to know that... ;-) Peace out, Cheers, Flavio Zanetti Boston, MA
rallispec
it's been said here many times that nissan uses the same 5EAT tranny in some of thier vehicles. I'm not sure which ones off the top of my head though. (I believe the new Titan is one of them) also -- the rev matching isnt something that was added to the G35 until this year i believe. It's most likely an ECU programming thing. I'm sure the capability is there in any 'manumatic' transmission, its just a matter of programming. i've read that the Accessport seems to smooth downshifts a bit as well on the LGT auto tranny. fzanetti
http://www.legacygt.com/forums/printthread.php?t=3324&pp=40 Apparently it's used in the G, FX and M series too... That's why it's so sporty and a loooot better than the old 4EAT from Subbie... Living and learning I guess... fzanetti
Thanks my man froM Morrisville, NC!!!!! heheheheheeheh Always on top of the technical part of it... We had an Infiniti FX35 (huge discounts through my company) as my fiancee was driving it, and the shifting was really amazing, now it can explain why!!!! Thanks again, Cheers ya'll...(rememberring my old days in NC) Flavio Zanetti Boston, MA
Slickvic
No, sorry Jatco does not make this tranny. Look here: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1711&highlight=prodrive+5eat Prodrive makes the 5EAT. SPORTSHIFT is a registered trademark of Prodrive. Electronically controlled 5-speed Automatic Transmission (5EAT SS) http://www.subaru.ca/content/7907/media/en-ca/download/Legacy2005_Brochure.pdf
fzanetti
But isn't Prodrive making trannies for Infiniti and Nissan models as well? Just curiosity... I have the 5MT anyway heheeheh Flavio Zanetti Boston, MA
Slickvic
Well yes. Prodrive is independant and as far as I can see they provide trannies for both Subaru and Nissan and from the evidence supplies the same exact 5EAT. More money for Prodrive, why not? legacy_y_tu
Hello, Lurking for awhile and while searching found that the 5EAT transmission is the same as the one Infinity uses. As such, the Infinity auto transmission will rev match when you manually downshift. Does the LegacyGT's auto do the same? Thanks Peace Back on topic... while driving home tonight I downshifted without blipping the throttle. Actually downshifted through two gears to try to get a semi-hard downshift. The tranny definitely didn't jar or bang, nor did it rev-match as suspected and this was a reasonably aggressive downshift.
red beast
it doesn't rev match on the 3.0r. it would be a nice change and should take the shock to the driveline out.
fzanetti
There has gotten to be a way to change that, and match the G35/350Z... Maybe an EPROM change or something.... Flavio Zanetti Boston, MA
melayout
But as stated before, we don't have the JATCO tranny since it is RWD only and so our tranny may and may not the capability. I keed I keeed
RoundBoy
its not the greatest at downshifting anyway. Try going down a small incline while in 2nd gear... it will downshift into 1st even though you are accelerating down the hill a bit.
melayout
Start in 2nd from a standstill and it won't downshift to 1st. I keed I keeed
RoundBoy
not if you are already moving. The problem is slowing down to take a bump.. still in second... then going down a hill. you are too slow rpm wise to upshift to 3rd (no arrow) so you make it to the bottom of 2nd gear. You speed up slightly on the hill... but car unexpededly goes to first gear.. causing the drivetrain clunk
melayout
Our transmission doesn't shift unexpectedly. It does it according to the maximum and minimum speed for each gear, plus whether you are on WOT and adds in your driving/shifting style it has adapted to. Just familiarize yourself with those shift points and it won't be unexpected. I keed I keeed
Slickvic
Roundboy, move the shifter to Sportmode and and press a downshift button. That will keep you in the current gear and you will see the "S" change to the current gear selected. Now it will hold 2nd.
melayout
Roundboy - is this happening in temporary Sport Mode while the shifter is in D mode or in true manumatic mode ? I keed I keeed
