what size tires should I run?

im upgrading to 18x8 summer wheels and am wondering what size tires I should get. The suspension is stock on the car and I want to keep it that way. What is the biggest tires I can run and not rub. I do want to fill the wheel well as much as possible. leaving little gap between the wheel well and the tires. Any help would be great.

225/40-18 will match the stock rim/tire diameter the best, which also means keeping your speedometer as close to accurate as possible. If you go with too high a sidewall on your 18" rim, your speedo will read slower than you're actually going, and that could get you into potential trouble. For instance, if you put a 235/45-18 size tire on that rim, your speedometer would read 6.9% too slow (you'd actually be going 64.2 MPH when your speed reads 60).

I understand you want to keep your suspension stock, but any time you go with a larger size rim, it's best to keep the overall diamater of the rim/tire combo as close to stock as possible. Which gives you a smaller sidewall, which gives the illusion that the gap between the wheel and fender has gotten larger.

I guess you could get your speedo recalibrated for a larger size/diamter tire, but I have never had that done, so I don't know 1) how easy, or 2) how expensive it is.

Check out this website for changing rims/tire sizes. It's a great resource I found about 12 years ago and have used it ever since. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Remember our stock size tires are 215/45-17

Here is an awesome tire size calculator:

http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

I am running 245/40/17.... wrong rim size for you I know but these are about the biggest on stock suspension and they don't rub.

I wouldn't worry about your spedo...it will only be off a few mph....no big deal

This is straight from Xenonk's sticky post in the wheels and tires.

18 in. rims (for GT 2005-on):

215/35/18 (only good for autocrossing use, do not use for daily driving)

225/35/18 (only good for autocrossing use, do not use for daily driving)

215/40/18 (uncommon tire size, close to OEM overall tire diameter, good for daily driving)

225/40/18 (typical sizing, most popular size, GREAT for daily driving)

235/40/18 (very large, but great for pot-hole city driving, may need fender rolling)

235/35/18 (rare size, but closest to OE tire sizing to keep the spedometer reading correctly)

245/35/18 (common autocross, performance size, very good for daily driving)

255/35/18 (very good daily driving size, even better on the track)

265/35/18 (very good daily driving use, but the car wont be able to use all 265mm of tread for the track)

275/30/18 (tallest tire you can mount without fender clearing issues on a 2" lowered car if you get the right offset)

285/30/18 (aka, the "STREETS OF DREAM" setup... the widest you can go.. this is the next tire size I am going for and a rim to match it)

Have fun

Zmarko you want to run a 225 on a 8" wide wheel just to keep the speedo true?

245/35/18 if you can avoid potholes is a brilliant dd setup on 18x8in. 235/40 is also an option if the roads are a little rougher.

Don't worry about visually filling the wheel well at the expense of performance. Your tires are the single most important thing on your car. Want to fill the wells? 19" is always an option.

You didn't post your offset. I won't be satisfied until I can run 275 tires on my LGT. I ran 275 on my 2005 OBXT, I ran 275 on my 2008 STi and I ran 275 on my 2011 Audi S4.

The 2005 LGT will not be happy until 275 tires are on the rims! It's the magic number. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I didn't exactly word my last post the best. I was essentially using that size as an example. lol. I wouldn't probably go wider than 245 though, as it may cause some rubbing under load, and cornering.
