jfoode
So the glass on the driver's side view mirror broke on my 1996 outback legacy, it is the power side view with defrost, and the only option to fix it is to replace the entire unit, which costs over $200 new. Anyone ever just swapped out the glass? I found the part number that fits, pn 51449, but I'm worried that the defrost may melt the adhesive, can I just disconnect the defrost wiring and replace the glass for $14 instead of $200? Thanks! Stasis
When I was glazing the gunk we used for mirrors was heat resistant as most new houses here have backheating for demisting, it's cheap per tube so replacing the glass shouldn't be a biggie really. How is the glass supplied? Just the mirror itself or does it have what it needs to clip on etc?
David E
Bet if you check with a local auto glass place they can tell you.
Stang70Fastback
Yeah this sounds like the kind of thing that a glass shop could probably do in literally two minutes. You might just be able to buy the part and have them install it correctly for like 20 bucks or something?
