Mblock66
I was just wondering if anyone has posted #'s for running a GT 5eat yet? I am not trying to get into a 5MT vs 5EAT conversation. I bought my 5EAT for commute and traffic and usability purposes (so others can drive it in emergency) however I am big into mods and having my share of track fun. So with that out of the way anything out there? I just got in on the GB Unorth Racing Pulley Set. That should be here in about a week. I just turned 1000 miles last night so now I can have some fun. Mods in the upcoming weeks will include: 1) Stock Diam Pulley Set 2) Cobb AP Stage 1 93 octane I have not run myself (obviously) but I think will soon but I may not get a chance to stock. I am hoping to run 13.8 or so once these mods are in.
wukindada
No plans to run mine @ a track! Once you get to stage II on a nice cool day you should be able to attain those #'s:) Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!
Mblock66
Stage II?? I was hoping to hit them stage I with pullies and maybe a drop in
wukindada
I'm guessing here but you should Be in the 14-14.2 range possibly dipping into the 13.9 range;) Look into removing some LBS on the vehicle...that will get you there. It also will depend alot on how hard you launch...If I am going to run it, I find a great launch is @3400:)Once I get the pulley set on and install my new uppipe I believe (weather on my side) I could drop below 13.5:) Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!! MDTURBO
does anyone make higher-stall torque converters for the auto's? 2012 Forester XT. Stage 2+ Retired from Racing. I used to build FMIC and more.
Mblock66
I don't understand how anyone can say if a 5MT is running 13.6's (optimally) on ONLY Stage I that an Auto running Stage I, Pullies, and a drop in will only run mid to low 14's. I really doubt that the auto with 2 more mods (albeit the drop in doesn't do much) will be a second slower in the 1/4 then a Stage I 5MT. Especially when "the magazines" only had them like .5 apart stock My 97 Z28 auto ran only .2 behind a very good 6mt z28 driver at the track consistantly. I am not trying to argue at all. Just baffled that people are predicting that you can get a manual to 13.0 MAYBE even 12.9 territory on stock turbo. Someone on this board already ran a 13.0. So why couldn't the auto be tricked out to run 13.2-13.3 on stick turbo with same mods.

wukindada
We should be about a half second slower in the Quarter (4 car lengths @ speed) Remember that is with a very good driver in the MT, any mistake at all and you are right there. Our 0-60 time are even closer:) Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!
Mblock66
That is what I thought. So basically if a perfectly good 5MT driver can pull a 13.6 at only Stage I on an awesome sea level day at the track, at .5 behind the Auto would be 14.1. So you add pullies and maybe that drop in filter and you could be in the 13's. Maybe no 13.8 but maybe a 13.9X
wukindada
sounds about right;) Remember look @ taking LBS of the vehicle if you plan on running it at the track (1/4 tank of gas, remove spare) **I find my car feels quicker when I slightly increase the tire pressure**If you get some evening temps in the low 60's or lower Launch @3400 and let us know;) Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!! Mblock66
Well I run higher tire pressure all the time anyway. I think I am like 39 lbs in the front and 37 in the rears right now. Not sure if I would bump that up even more at the track or not. I will get there sooner or later. I think my stock tires are probably going to be my biggest killer. Even for the manual, that is a stage 2 ET. Like I said previously, you will be looking at low to mid 14's.

Like I said previously, you will be looking at low to mid 14's. I dunno, I just read some posts of people with Stage I that said they pulled 13.7-13.8 in extremly bad heat or high elevation. That would easily = 13.6 in OPTIMAL conditions. Either way no sense arguing, I will just post #'s in a few weeks after I run.

KTM 525
The first 5EAT guy to put a converter in will be kickin butt. Us 5M guys will be jealous no doubt. Mblock66 I ran my Legacy at Englishtown wich is near you. It was in the cold weather (VERY optimal like minus 1000 ft) it had the spare and jack out,gas tank on fumes, and a lightweight battery. Not much more that could have been in my favor and with the 5M I bested a 14.05-97mph. Not bad at all so at a stage 1 setup (+20-25hp over stock) i'd say a high 13.7 to 13.8 would have been expected. firedawgs
OK, I just went up and ran at New England Dragway last weekend. dv8ingvector and NHLegs was also there. The best times NHegs = 13.9? w/ cobb stage 1 5spd MT dv8ingvector = 14.66 bone stock (with air intake silencer removed) 5EAT firedawgs = 14.24 w/ cobb stage 1, uppipe, and headers 5EAT I will tell you that NHLegs time was early in the day when it was cooler and dryer. I would be a close head to head race; but I also do have the headers and uppipe I did also hit 100mph on my second best run of the day, so the horsepower is there. I lose on 60' time vs. a MT due to the stall torque converter. dv8ingvector and myself hit those times running against each other. You can see about where the stock is vs. where stage 1 is on a 5EAT. I have the downpipe on order and will hit the track again. I am expecting high 13s. Hoped that helped. Updated my vBGarage:
firedawgs
P.S. I do know now that weather is a great factor in the times. Colder dry days are optium. Updated my vBGarage:

So that goes to show that on a dry cool low sea level track a stock 5eat can MAYBE put up a 14.5X on an absolutely perfect run. And the 5MT with the same track and absolutly perfect run 13.9X. So about a half second although the 5eat will be more cosistant. So anyway my point is that if you ran earlier with him you might have dropped a tenth or two putting you around 13.9x-14.0X. Again I will just have to see what she can do when I get there.
litkaj
does anyone make higher-stall torque converters for the auto's? Level 10 sells 6 different models, three that are rebuilds of an existing converer and 3 that are new billet models. None are cheap but I wouldn't trust an aftermarket unit from anyone else. http://www.levelten.com/store/import/packages/subaru.htm
phuzaxeman
i know one thing, the legacy felt like it didn't kick in when i test drove the auto. it's almost like a different car driving the stick. one big diff. is the g's you get on the launch. the potential on the legacy manual cars are pretty neat. I've used one of their converters in the past (and loved it) and have friends who have bought about a half-dozen of their TCs (although none were for Subarus).
