1992 wagon rear speaker issue

Recommended Posts

The rear speakers are easy enough to get to but on the passenger side there is a metal container that is in the way for the new 6.5" speakers to drop in. Can this thing be moved? I really don't want to mount these on top of the speaker enclosure.

I didn't have a problem either, and I bought these cheap speakers from Wal-Mart called Scosche. They sound really really good, don't distort and most importantly, they fit. I just installed them 2 weeks ago in my 93 wagon.

Same issue on my '93. Had a set of JBLs laying around and thought I would drop them in there. The metal place/cover looks like its a protector/cover for the gas tank filler neck or something. I guess I'll work on fitting the JBLs in the front doors and get some el' cheapos for the rears.

I don't see why you can't CAREFULLY dent that metal cover thing a little bit, just to be able to squeeze the speaker in place. Cover the metal cover thing with a thick cloth, and hit it with a hammer. Might not be a good idea, or it could. It's hidden, so who cares how it's going to look.

BTW everyone in this forum, I'm selling my car, it's advertised in the for sale section.

My wife and I bought this 93 Legacy wagon that had a kenwood stereo with CD player in it. We were unable to use the stereo because the access code was not included. We bought a Sony stereo with CD player and had it installed saving the Kenwood to install in our motorhome after sending it back to Kenwood to have it reset to Factory specifications. We should have had new rear speakers installed at the same time because we later discovered that the original rear speakers were blown out. I found some that may fit but I do not know what size these need to be and I have no clue how to access the old speakers to remove them without damaging the covers. Do those covers just snap off and on? They are easy to find. They are right behind the back seat. Do I just pry those covers off then snap them back on after I change the speakers?

As far as I remember they have a few clips and it's

best to pop them up on the side near the center of

the car and then slide them towards the center of

the car....if that makes sense.

If you're in the back and you're looking at the one on

the right side, pop the left side up and slide it to the

left. Either way you shouldnt break them. I've found

they're pretty freakin tough. Then the old speakers

unscrew.
