06 aftermarket cat. ???

Recommended Posts

does anyone know of any company that makes a cat. for a 06 legacy. I am trying to get rid of cel.

No one makes a aftermarket OEM cat replacement for the 2006+ 2.5i. If you are under 80k miles take it back to Subaru and have it replaced under the emissions equipment warranty. Finding them in th scrap yard is difficult but you can find them on rs25.com and nasioc.com for sale.

If you are over 80k the only reliable supplier is Subaru and that will set you back $$$$

If the 06's are like the 07's the big issue is that the cat is welded to the header. Hence the cost from dealer.

Walker does make a cat that has the right turns and O2 bungs.

But you have get a shop, to cut the old off, weld the new on and attach flange and pipe to make it fit to the mid pipe.

O.

You can use a stock cat from any 2006 to 2009 Impreza 2.5i , Lgacy 2.5i, OutBack 2.5i, Forester 2.5 XS. Basically any 2006 to 2009 non turbo 4 cylinder cat will work. I wouldnt try to hack up the stocker to make it functional only because the stock ECU is so tight on readings, you could go through all that and still throw a CEL.

The only other cat that works well CEL free no matter the temp or driving conditions is the stock secondary cat, which is exactly like the stock primary cat.

I've *heard* about this, but you've got nothing to lose trying it.

Dunk the cats into a solution of dawn soap and water. Shake the hell out of it to agitate the buildup inside the converters, rinse it out with clean water, then let it all dry.

Apparently the difference between a CEL and no CEL is very slim when it comes to catalytic converters. If you increase the flow even the slightest bit through them, the CEL might go away.

Nothing about this strikes me as being bad for the cats, but if anyone knows otherwise, please feel free to correct me.

Worst case scenario, it doesn't work. Best case, you save a couple hundred dollars.
