TheDon427
Hey guys, ever since I purchased my car I noticed that when I unlock the trunk whether it be via key fob or lever next to the driver's seat, my trunk doesn't pop up. It unlocks, but I have to literally open it with some force by pulling up on the lip right above the license plate. It's almost like its sealed shut sometimes, other times it pops up about 1/8" and opens easily but still doesn't pop up. I had to park my car in a garage in the city recently and the attendant walked around the car with a mirror (looking for explosives I'm guessing) and once he got to the back he said "Pop the trunk." I said it was, saw him try to open it again and he said "Open the trunk!" and I had to yell "Pull harder!" in which resulted in my trunk flinging up. My WRX trunk used to pop open when unlocked and I didn't think the Legacy would be different. I was wondering if maybe my trunk springs were shot (if there are any). el5y
Mine doesn't pop up but I don't recall it being that difficult to open...
TheDon427
Its not always that "stuck" or hard to open. I'd say it's a 50/50 chance that I'll have to use some force. I'm not a small guy either. lol
bmx045
i haven't seen any legacy trunks pop.
Mega Users paintpollz Posted January 6, 2012 Mega Users Share Posted January 6, 2012 i haven't seen any legacy trunks pop. +1. In the winter the lever to open the trunk by the drivers side seat doesn't work for me. Works with the remote, and in the summer time its fine. I gotta tighten a cable or something... johnAWD
Mine has never popped up. When the release trips, it moves up about 1/2 inch, but I've always had to manually open it.

RJS5689
Mine doesn't pop either, and there are times it's stuck shut and requires some force to get open. It's been like this since day 1.
Scooby Fan
Do you have a wing on the trunk?...the extra weight nullifies the "Pop-up" aspect of the trunk opening....there are a set of heavier trunk springs that you can get from Subaru to assist the "Pop-up" action. TheDon427
Yes, I have the factory wing on it.
Scooby Fan
Then you need the upgraded spring kit if you want it to pop......I got the springs with my wing in a box....installed it myself.
TheDon427
It came with the wing. Are you saying Subaru put the wrong trunk springs in?
Scooby Fan
They probably just didn't instal them..remember that all the cars are built without wings and they get added later..check the color of the trunk springs....they are supposed to match the body color....if they are black they are probably the heavier ones....unless your car is black When I installed the ones in my wife's Impreza the trunk sprang open like a mouse trap...I had to remove one of them so it wouldn't hit us in the face it popped so hard. Check with your dealer parts dep't. and they can check them for you...they look identical except the heavier ones are slightly thicker.....and black. rob-2
Why do you want it to pop? I love that it doesn't.
