nkr
Hi I have a 2008 LGT with 5EAT and 54k miles.I bought it at 48k miles(Certified). Of late, I have been noticing a considerable vibration when I rev the engine between 1500 and 1700 rpm in Neutral/Park. This happens even when the engine is warmed up. Could this be an injector issue? Also, I was told that the sparkplug change interval is now reduced to 53k. Is this true? Another problem I noticed is that the engine almost stalls when moving from a stop. When I blip the throttle at very low rpms/vehicle speed, the engine shudders as if it were going to stall. Could this be the torque converter acting up? I am convinced I am looking at two different issues here but I could be wrong. I am a little worried here because I want to fix these issues before the powertrain warranty expires at 60k miles. Please help!
Max Capacity
Take it in and have them check it out. You have a warrenty right ? New plugs are a good thing, may be make sure the MAF and IAT sensors are clean. Air filter ? make sure all the vacuum hoses are connected and zip tied. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). nkr
I will do that. But the last time I took it to the dealer for service and I mentioned this problem (Engine vibration - the shudder was not present then), they 'cleaned' the throttle body and some other stuff and charged me 400 for it. And the problem is still there. When I told them the problem is still present , they had the nerve to say its a used car and can rebuild it if I wanted to spend on it BTW, this was Stevens Creek Subaru in San Jose. Any recommendations where I should take the car for my next service as I definitely do not want to take it to them.
bmx045
sounds like either a vaccum leak, or misfires, or dirty maf. plugs are 60k interval for your car. not a bad idea to change for this problem.
ouch1011
Every Subaru, not just Legacies, that I've ever driven had a slight vibration when just holding the engine around 2000rpm in neutral. Its normal.
bmx045
Every Subaru, not just Legacies, that I've ever driven had a slight vibration when just holding the engine around 2000rpm in neutral. nkr
Yes. It vibrates quite a bit. It does not seem normal at all. Also, the engine stall issue is more prevalent in the mornings. I was planning to take it in for the regular oil change and ask the dealer to look into this. But I am afraid that the dealer will just charge me 150 bucks for the inspection and then say everything's fine. I am going to schedule a service nevertheless. bmx045
Def sounds like intake manifold gaskets (o-rings) common vac leak in 08's. More prevalent when the weather gets colder.
nkr
So this should be covered by warranty right? I will schedule a service asap.
bmx045
Yea. If they can prove its them
nkr
There is no CEL. No codes thrown. I am using the scantool obd scanner. I do not know if that is any good to get such codes.
bmx045
if there are no codes, there are no codes. it took mine a while to throw a code. once it did it was misfires in all cyl. you can log roughness in each cyl while the issue occurs to determine if its misfires or something else... the dealer could as well...however i have a feel they'll give you a hard time since this issue throws no codes
nkr
When I took it in the last time, they did find three counts of misfire on cylinder 3 and two counts on some other cylinder. They said they cleaned the throttle body and did something else but the problem is still there. The engine almost stalling when I blip the throttle is new though. Thothage
I have the same issue with my 07 SpecB. About two weeks ago it freaked out (Check engine light came on, SI drive light started blinking, traction control light came on and cruise control light was blinking) on my way to work, so I took it to autozone to have them tell me what code it was throwing. They said it mis-fired on all four cylinders. I bought it used and have no warranty. Am I Screwed?

Thothage
I did read the thread. You said intake manifold gasket and vac leak was common in 08. I am not the best of mechanics, hence my question. Am I screwed? I was just trying to get some elaboration on what you were talking about.
bmx045
There have been issues with 07's....so it's possibly the issue. Change them out, or have someone do it..... check for loose hoses in the engine bay, make sure hose clamps are tight between intercooler and throttle body...etc. Since you seem to not know a thing about this you should probably just drive it to a shop and wait for them to figure it out.
