Prelude38
First i would like to say hi to everyone on these forums. i have received some great help from the NAIOC and i hope the same of here. here is my Problem or maybe gift. I have been contacted by a person looking to sell me a 99 legacy GT. the car has about 50,000 KM (31068.5 miles). the car has been in storage and looks like it has been baby'd. interior looks great and there are a few mod done to it like: In addition to the "standard" options that come with the car, this is what's currently installed: - Low-beam Phillips 4300K HID Conversion - 6" round hi-beam driving lights - PIAA Plasma H3 bulbs in foglights - Custom body work on trunk (shaved emblems, weld in holes, repainted) Body colored front air dam, side skirts and rear valence (just like the Ltd. models) - Shine Factory Paint Protection (w/ warranty on "Diamond coat") - Competition SQ spec Alpine cassette headunit w/ 6CD changer - Prewired Pioneer 150w rms sub amp w/ Rockford Fosgate Wiring - Very light tint on the front 2 windows, limo tint on the back (as shown in the pics). - Done @ Super Tint - New 650cca battery (9yr warranty through Canadian Tire) - Eliminator Battery [i may swap this with a relatively new Subaru battery out of my '03 Legacy GT auto] - Scotchguard on the interior [seats, carpet, floormats] (the car still has the new car smell). - Done @ Shine Factory - iON Performance MAF adaptor and cone filter [can remove to install factory airbox set-up] - factory airbox will be provided; along with associated hardware. - iON Performance front upper strut tower bar [can be removed] - iON Performance/KVR CF/Kevlar Sport brake pads F&R [less then 16,000kms] - OEM FHI 20mm rear swaybar upgrade. - Factory Subaru/Alpine Alarm/Immobilizer & keyless entry. - Factory premium floor mats the guys wants about $25,000 or 22,000 with out some of the wheels he got. right now i can only spend 18,000 on it but i was wondering what everyone take was on it. it would be a great help to me

scans007
To me it seems as if the price is high, considering you can get a new one for 25k. Any pics of the car? I mean there are no engine mods, a few suspention mods, mostly just looks stuff. Does that justify a higher price? Tell him/her you'll pay 18k CAN and that's all you can do, see what he/she says...25k seems a bit high. Remember if he babied and thinks its a treat, human instinct will charge more for it cuz its dearer to the heart ;p PS. no need to be like Keefe and have a million sets of wheels......LOL Curious to see what others say though....I always fight for the best deal when it comes to something like this
wukindada
WAY...WAY.. TOO MUCH:( That vehicle is worth no more than 12k US (including mods) if it is in true showroom condition! Take a look at this 02 GT Wagon on E-Bay (w/upgrades) Item #4557702326 the vehicle only has 37K and you could walk away including the shipping for 15-15.5K US:) Or check out Item 03 limited # 4557319752 it could be had for around 1500 more;) Any way you look at it let this person test the market and see what he gets....unless he is willing to give you a true fair price;) Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!! rao
+1, waaaaaaay to much Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
santacruzblur
the blue book is significantly less than 20k Us or Canadian. Run and buy yourself a brand new 05 and you will be ahead of the game.
Martyr
Wow...that is way overpriced. $20K (US) for a 6 year old car with 31,000 miles and its original sticker was probably mid-20s? There are 3 2005 Legacy GTs on eBay right now that you could have for nearly the same price with factory warranties remaining. Walk away. This guy is way too proud of his mods and investment. Go drive a new Legacy GT at a dealer and the choice will become even clearer to you. Martyr
dgags31
Take the 18K and put it down on a new one. You'll be much happier.

Beanboy
Do you have a steady job? Any extra income over the month? A new Legacy GT can be bought for around 24K (US) with awesome financing. Run some numbers and see how you can invest that 18K into a few extra car payments, build credit, and get a much better base car than the one advertised. Run, not walk, away from that deal. -B -B http://www.standardshift.com
GTWag
WAYYYYYYYY TOOOOO MUCCHHHHHH I completely agree with the others -- get a 2005! The advancement in the interior alone is worth it... not to mention, oh yeah, the engine.
Prelude38
Here are a few of the pictures i got from him about his car. i really like the older styling of the subarus like this 99 Legacy and the 00-01 Impreza 2.5RS. the canadian black book value is about 16,000 high. i am going to get a call from the seller this monday and i want to be prepared to see what is the lowest price. he said " the BMW dealer offered me 21,000 for it stock" he told me he needs to sell it because he has a deposit on a 99 M5 and if he doesn't sell it he will trade it in. let me know what u all think. and maybe some advice on what to say to him when he calls. this will be my first car as well.http://www.geocities.com/nightkids2k2/99gt4.jpg http://www.geocities.com/nightkids2k2/99gt8.jpg http://www.geocities.com/nightkids2k2/99gt19.jpg http://www.geocities.com/nightkids2k2/99gt14.jpg Last thing thanks for everyones fast response. one thing i have notice is that Subaru driver are very passionate about their cars. thanks again

When it comes time to sell I plan on going there and getting 6-8k over what the car is worth here in the States;) By the way... that is supposed to be CLEAN? Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!! Prelude38
he told me he has to do some preping first before he sells it. but i would just like to know what kinda of price i should offer. and how to go about doing it ?
BrownBoy
Dont do anything. Buy a new Legacy. And if you absolutely must have that body style, buy another one that is being offered MUCH cheaper, and put on some mods yourself. You will be much happier. FYI. You can get a brand spanking new 2.5i (similar to this LEgacy in terms that it is not a turbo) for maybe a grand more or so, maybe less due to the fact that 06s are due any time now... Martyr
Sheesh, it sounds like you really have your heart set on getting that car for some reason. Have you even checked NADA or Kelley Blue Book to see what that car SHOULD be worth? Well, I did...and this guy is royally trying to rip you off. The NADA Retail Value on his car (99 Legacy GT, 31,000 miles) is US$9,950!!! The Trade-In value is US$8,225. Go to www.nadaguides.com to see for yourself. The accessories on his car might add $1,000 tops to the value (most aftermarket accessories are ignored in used car pricing). His car is not worth more than $12K - $13K Canadian TOPS. I can't believe that you are even considering paying $18K or $20K or more. If you do, then a few years from now I guarantee that you will be kicking yourself for making such a dumb decision. Listen to us, we are trying to help you. This is a very bad deal. Walk away. Martyr
AWDxBOOST
ouch....20k would be a BEATING....you can get a used 05 lgt for about 22k.... he's lying about the dealer giving him 21k....we would give him about 8300 at my dealership...mods dont do shit but decrease the value to a dealership on top of that he sends you shitty pictures shady guy...id stay away
DeepFreeze2
I agree with the sentiments of my fellow members. Too much $$$. I can appreciate a person modding his/her car and being proud of it as well, but who's to say that he/she "did it right" and you won't be inheriting problems from their "cutting corners"? Not trying to flame anyone. Just playing devil's advocate for a sec. Good luck. YA RLY!!! Home of +2500 useless posts!!!!
