If anyone may...

I finally recieved the black metal racing pedals i had my dealer ship order in for me (i saw them on the screen on the business managers computer and said, 'looks good, chip it.' and they were on their way.:)

Go to pick them up and rush home this pm to get to work. I was told these would be SUPER easy to install and well... i'm not so keen to just start drilling away.:(

First off, i can see that i'll have to drill through the metal of the clutch and brake pedals... but the holes on the new metal covers are aranged like a cross (1,2,1), which sort of puts the top and bottom holes in line with the spine of the metal in back of the pedal, arg!

Second: do you just drill on through the existing surface of the gas pedal!?!?

Where ever you so please?

If anyone could help out i would be so stoked.

Good luck drilling through the brake and clutch pedal. Those are metal and not just solid plastic.

Are these the kind that have bars that go behind the existing pedals to hold them on, or do you really need to drill them on? Any pictures of these? They don't sound like OEM Subaru pedals. STi pedals aren't like that and neither are WRX pedals. I took my STi pedals off and put WRX ones on and nothing was drilled into the pedals for either of them. Is it something the dealership will install for you since they are ordering them?

Just to make sure nobody though i was exagerating about the 'noob' part at the begining of the thread... i'm not entirely sure i know what "OEM" stands for.

The pedal on the car now... with the rubber off, the clutch and brake, are pure metal, small sqarish plates on the bar, with the connection of the bar to the pedal being a vertical 'line' if you will on the back of the pedal.

The ones i ordered are nothing special, cuz i wanted an extremely low profile kind of look. Just simple black metal plates with holes, and four little holes to screw the son's of @$#^ 's on.

OEM means its something that was made specifically by Subaru for Subarus. Its not an aftermarket product that was made to be a universal fit, in other words. These pedals sound like they are aftermarket products that weren't made to fit specifically on the Legacy. If they are supposed to screw directly to the pedals then you are out of luck. I would take them back and get a different set that was made for the Legacy. If you bought these from the dealership then they should be able to install them for you. Otherwise you are going to have to do the drilling yourself. Personally I would send them back and get some made for a Subaru and not some aftermarket pedals that need to be screwed on.

TurboDucky,

No need to be ashamed of being a noob, we've all gotta start somewhere. :)

Now, the pads you have, are they similar to this?

If so, they should simply "clamp" on to your existing pedals and pedal pads - no need to even remove the stock/OEM rubber cover.

Simply loosely screw-in the screws at each corner of the new covers, with their respective bases (the L-shaped bar) attached. Now, slip this setup over your current pedal (with the rubber slip-fit cover still on it) - you may need to rotate the "L" bars to get the cover to go on. With the new cover on, simply rotate each "L" again so that they are now securing that corner of the pedal, and tighten-down its set-screw until you get the new cover secured. You'll need two Ls to be tightened-down/secured before the new cover takes-hold and won't slip/fall off, so don't get too frustrated. I tend to do them in a crossed fashion, meaning one, and then the one across from it.

If this isn't what yours looks like, please try to give us a link to the product and/or, even better, a photo of your item.

Best of luck!

Nope, those aren't them. Mine definitely need to be drilled in... as per the instructions too.

I do however REALLY like the ones you just showed me there...I think i'm going to order them in and forgo the drilling.

Thanks so much!

just becareful doing the install, you can drill through anything. Just becareful and watch where the bolt WOULD come out the other end of the stock pedals (as you dont want to hit the mounting point or a pivot point of the stock pedals of where they are connected to), when you are done, just enjoy it:

NP. ;)

And +1 to what Keefe said. That's some great advice.

Furthermore, be careful and inspect how long the bolts are after you install, and make sure they (1) won't affect pedal travel nor "hang" on anything (which are both super-important for safety) and (2) won't punch holes in your carpeting or mat (which can also cause #1 issues). Having a cordless Dremel or other cordless cutting tool is a great investment for around-the-house chores and a sure-cure for any of the above issues. :)
