nightdesigns
I have an '04 Leg L w/ an A/T non-GT. I love the car, but the A/T leaves a lot to be desired (Yes I know I should get a M/T, yadda, yadda, yadda). Do the other subaru models (Outback, baja, etc) use the same A/T? I'm looking for something that has some more "umph!" without going G/T.
BTS
My understanding is that for ’04 there were at least two auto trans: the standard 4 speed and a ‘sportshift’ model. I believe that is the same for ’05. I owned a 2004 Outback auto and can say that it was a horrible transmission. Schizophrenic and completely out of sync with my driving style. The a/t made a good car a real dog to drive everyday. I traded it in with only 18k miles for my 05 GT with a m/t. Test driving an ’03 (if I remember right) Legacy GT wagon with sportshift, I didn’t really notice much more "oomph" over the standard a/t. I suppose it was better but as much as I love Subes (owned 5) I am not a big fan of their a/t. I don’t think you are going to get noticeable “oomph” until you look at different engine choices. mach_six
I doubt there would be 2 transmission for the same year car. I believe pre-05 was just a 4EAT only did the new 05 did we get a 5EAT with sport shift. The Baja did have sport shift the 2nd year it came out and might have the first year. BTS
It depends on trim level. Pre '05, the non GT Legacy’s had the standard 4 speed and the GT trim had a sportshift. The non-turbo Legacy GT Wagon I test drove in November 2003 had the sportshift a/t. I believe it was a 4 speed and not 5 speed as in the '05's. I drove the Legacy GT 2003 back to back against the 2004 Outback and first year (2004?) Turbo Forester all with a/t. At the time I was convinced I needed an auto-wagon. I have since come back to the sedan m/t fold.
