WRXTom Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 This is the Subaru UK optional shift knob that I had used this in my WRX. The slightly lower height feels more natural to me but I am not a tall guy (5'9"). *edit* I generally shift with my fingertips (gears 1-2, 3-4) or palm (gears 2-3, 4-5) rather than grip the shift knob and the broader profile of the Momo makes it more comfortable to use. The aluminum doesn't quite match the interior plastics but it does match (more or less) some of the silver trim rings so I'm OK with it. axis008 Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Can you show us a picture of it installed? Also, can you do a write up on how to install the shift knob. I'm sure I can figure it out but reading a write up would be more insightful :). -ben
SC GT Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 With those Subaru-specific knobs, you just pull the boot down off from that plastic notch you see on the UK knob, then screw one off, and screw the other on.
WRXTom Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 Just to be clear, for those that have not seen a GT in person, the optional Momo knob is the one installed in the pic. I put them side-by-side to show the differences in height and shape. I'm not sure if the Momo knob in the pic is the same one currently available from Subaru for the Legacy. Tom

I'm a little embarassed .. but I can't seem to get the stock knob off. It's just REALLY on there. How do I get it off? And does anyone have a copy of the instructions around?
rc0032 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 If you look at the underside of the stock knob there is a small pass though. I just gammed the end of a coat hanger in there and pried. If you look at the pic there is a lip the boot has to get over.
Guest *Jedimaster* Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Without scrolling the pix over I'm thinking "Who is this guy, Spiderman? How did he get that knob to stick to his fingers"?
scottmcphee Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 The factory knob is a side-grab and the Momo is a top-grabber. It takes a little while to used to rotating your wrist 90 degrees, but once you're on top.. it's a nice place to be ;-) Scott
