Skipping CDs (did search)

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else have a problem with skipping CDs?

These are not burned CDs. My CD player with skip 3-5 seconds into a song, and jump to the next track. I could be sitting parked, and the player still does it.

If I hold the scan forward for a couple of seconds on the new track before it skips, then it won't do it.

I have been hesitant to take the car to the dealership, because I don't want them tearing into my dash, and mucking things up. They usually do more harm than good, and I don't want to lose my fit-in-finish.

My friend who is a Honda engineer said that they might have a software upgrade for it or something.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks! :)

Your CD's are scratched.

I'd pull my unit out and make sure its fastened securly. Does it skip when u are not moving, or is it from the drive? To pull out the unit, pull up the shift-boot panel, unscrew the knob, un-screw the two screws holding the side modling, then u got 8 screws to pull the unit out.

Wow you're helpful.

My CDs are not scratched.

OK- your cd player is fux0r3d- take it back to the dealer- feel better now?

Now now. Not everyone understands Jedi's humor. Let's not bust out the attitude just yet. :)

As for the issue, I don't think it's a loose unit, since he said that it happens even when the car is still. Maybe something is wrong with the motor or laser? That is kind of weird though. So it happens in the beginning of the track? I don't see why it would be a software thing. I don't know the specs. of the CD player, but does it have anti-skip? In other words does it read/buffer more than it plays at a time? If so I don't know why it would be a software thing. Or maybe it is, but I don't know what could cause a change in it. Personally, I think you should bring it to the dealer. If under warranty they might just replace the unit or something.

What a tool bag. No wonder you have 5000 posts, with the drivel that falls out of your keyboard.

I like you. Even though you're from Ohio.

Let it sit outside in the sunlight for a day with the windows and sunroof open to thoroughly dry out....or...run the heck out of the AC with the suction set to interior recirc. You may have condensation in the unit. I had the same thing in a WRX and this was the cause...doesn't sound like it makes sense, but it only skipped on the initial portion of the track. I taped a desicant bag just inside the unit for a couple of days and it helped out for a while. Eventually came back though.

I did start out serious with the scratched CD thing. I had a CD skip last week and it's never done that before- same kind of thing you mentioned- skipping through the track, then going on to the next one. When I ejected it, sure enough it was scratched up.

But if you say they're not scratched, I'd say make sure the deck is bolted down completely. When I had my console apart last summer, the radio bolts weren't tight. I tightened them, just in case it would make more vibration reach the deck.

I don't think anyone's said this just yet......

What about running a lens cleaning CD through the player?

Thanks everyone, I'll give this stuff a try and let you know my results. :)

I got one of the dry brush cleaners and it worked well on an old changer i had problems with. Also sticking the nozzle of some compressed air into the loader tray and cleaning it out can help. But honestly if neither of those work then its an allingment issue which cant be fixed without taking the radio apart.

I have just noticed this problem, too. I was going to take my car to the dealer to get a new unit soon if something didn't fix the problem. I have noticed it more now though as it has gotten hot and I have been running the A/C - I thought that might have something to do with it. Never happened when it was cold outside.

It's no different than last year :p

The CD player just needs some cleaning I believe.
