eb50
i gues the question is... do i buy a forester than or give up my 1300 stereo... maybe 2006 lgt will have the updated circuitry for the 2din
eb50
and which new car doesn't come with a combined/proprietery HVAC faceplate. my 2003 legacy did not. the 2005 forester and supposedly the 2006 forester will not as well
melayout
Come on, the forester is not a sporty/touring car. That new 18-wheeler can fit any 2in deck available. I keed I keeed
msmith
You can install a standard DIN aftermarket head unit in the upper dash cubby with a conversion kit that is available... or you can use a CleanSweep and keep the factory head unit. Either way you can get great aftermarket audio in your LGT.

melayout
The STi is a harsh sports car where the mechanical harmony overrides any human produced sounds. You know what I mean, Legacy is a mid-size touring sedan, comparable to G35 and TSX, all of which have proprietery faceplates. The LGT is such nice car, you are missing so much by eliminating it because you can't get your stereo in. I keed I keeed
eb50
the legacy is a beautiful car... too bad i cant listen to my beautiful stereo in it. the 06 forester should be beautiful. i might just hold out for that
msmith
You should write an e-mail or a letter to Subaru to tell them how their stupid one-piece HVAC and Radio panel stopped you from buying the car. The JDM Legacy has separate panels for HVAC and radio, why doesn't ours??? If the automakers don't hear these sorts of comments from discouraged buyers, they will continue with their practice of making these all-in-one control panels. msmith
Daaaamn dude, remind me never to get on your bad side. I don't know an e-mail address... they have a form on the subaru.com website to submit inquiries, though. One should be enough.
eb50
one is certainly not enough. i know dealerships that have complained and SOA still releases the 2006 with this stupid design

gfxdave99
I know that they make an adapter for hondas to go from dual zone to single zone climate control. I dont see why they couldnt do the same for a subbie If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough. - Mario Andretti
rao
2 reasons. 1. The Subaru audio/HVAC systems are completely integrated. Unless you redesign the system or can cut up the chips, it just won't work. Of course anything can be done with enough money. 2. Honda sells over 200,000 Accords a year. Subaru will be lucky to sell 25,000 Legacies; the demand for this just isn't there. Even if it was the cost would be huge and then everyone would be saying "I can't believe Metra wants $500 for the radio kit...." GET OVER IT Also, YOUR IPOD WILL EVER JUST PLUG IN REALLY, IT WON'T Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT

mach_six
When teh new G35 coupe came out in the US it has the propriertary face plate. The one released in Japan has the option or stock w/ the kit to install your own aftermarket double DIN radio. I think parts costs $400 from the factory so it wasn't cheap but only way to make it work in the US model. I'm not sure why the US does this and limits owners with upgrade options. MUD
I had the same complaint. I ended up giving my 800$ head unit to my kid sister.....and now I'm planning to add a 4ch amp w/ better speakers & looking for somewhere to mount a good equalizer. That should take care of it. It is the disposition of men to desire that which he cannot have, hence my un-quenchable wet desire for Shakira!

IN early July my GT has an appointment with the fabricator dudes to do a clean non-hack job flush mount of my EMPEG into the upper cubby. I got it to fit with ye-olde dremmel tool, but since I want it to look as stock as possible I'm having some custom bondo/fiberglass-fu performed on it. You CAN put a 1 DIN unit in that cubby, folks here have done it and an oversized sloightly bigger than DIN device like the EMPEG will also fit and if you REALLY want to spend cash on labor a double din device will fit in the cubby if you're willing to ditch/relocate the trip computer/clock thing. eb50
Thank you for your e-mail with suggestions for changes to our Subaru vehicles. We have no indication that there will be a retrofit kit designed for the audio system in any of our previous models. Since so much work goes into development for current model vehicles' accessories/parts, we generally do not design parts and accessories for previous model year vehicles. However, I will forward your message to our Product Planning Department for their information. In the past, input from our owners has been helpful in initiating changes to our newer models. We hope to continually improve our products and appreciate your recommendations. Best Wishes, Natalie Cox Subaru of America, Inc. Customer Dealer Services E-Contact Team ----------------------------------------------------------- YOUR ORIGINAL MAIL: I currently own a 2003 Legacy Special Edition. I love it to deal, but would like to upgrade to the 2005 LGT or OBXT. Unfortunately, I have spent thousands on my car stereo in my 2003. I am so frustrated that th new Legacy line no longer uses the DINS, but instead integrated its radio/climate controls. This reason along turned me away from upgrading to the 2005, and from what I hear, the 2006 as well. Please create a kit or go back to the DIN system. Many Subaru owners are young like me (25), and really enjoy our car audio in conjunction with your beautiful, fast cars. Is there any plan to move back to the DIN system? Thank you.
