Stage2 vs 02 Ford Lightning??

Recommended Posts

So my co-worker just got an 02 lightning totally stock, i was fairly unimpressed when i took it for a drive. Even mashing the pedal to the floor did not smoke the tires off from a dead stop. I thought the the thing would NEVER hook up if i did this??

I have a Cobb stage 2 sti UP, and guttted stock DP, how would i fair against that stupid truck at the drag strip? I was able to pull at 13.7 out of my WRX and my GT feel waaay faster then that did, but by the books arent those lightnings supposed to be fast??? Are they any good at top end highway speeds?

Anyone have any experience?

It could be close...

My 0-60 mph calculator shows a time of 5.49 seconds based on power, weight, transmission, and drive type. But you could figure it slightly slower being that it's a truck and has poor aerodynamics and a less-than-ideal gearing ratio.

Awseom! thanks for the info. We will DEF be heading up to the drag strip fairly soon for a street night. I will keep you posted on it. Im feeling fairly confident.

So the general 0-60 estimate for a stage 2 5 speed LGT is around 5 sec? Thats what i was figuring at least

I have taken out an 03 lightning with my 5EAT:) If he wants to run bet him a very good dinner for 2;) it will be like taking $$ from a baby since you are a 5mt.

Tip: Launch hard those trucks have a ton of LB-FT so he will have a hard time putting it all down @ launch (Between 45-70 he will come back on you a little).

Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!

Dont get me wrong I love mt gt. But my best friend has a 02 lightning with about the same mods. nothing huge. We pulled up to eachother at a light and decided to have a little fun. I took him off the line with a pretty good launch. But when I hit about 45-50 it just tore past me. Lets just say it gave me a new appreciation for that truck and maybe a little envy. but good luck and let us know.

Are you modded at all? dont get me wrong any other situation and i wouldnt bash on the lightning this much, but its a long story of how this kid came to get the truck, and since we work at a subaru dealership we are all just obligated to comepletely make fun of him. Im sure you understand...... afterall if you WORKED in SALES at a subaru dealership, knew everything you should about car sales, AND knew the tremendously ridicoulous deal you could get on any new subaru, would you go out and LEASE!!! a 2002 lightning with 47k milesl!!!! for WWAAYY more then what a LGT would cost you??...... hmmmm...... exactly

No I'm not modded at all it is a MT. I just like the look its white with tan interior. Thats what im all about is looks rather then speed but I feel like I have a good mix with my car. I'm not saying I would buy a lightning in fact im not to fond of 2wd cars but just watch out its pretty quick but you very well may win. Just let us know how it goes.

Are they really that rare the dealership I bought it from had 3 of the same? And like I said dont underestimate the lightning if he has done intake and anything else at all like exhaust or chip he's gonna be around 450 lbs so just be careful that thing is a tork MONSTER!

Ill take my chances. Alot will come down to driver skill... i know i know the lightning is an automatic how much skill could it possibly take to drive it, well my friends, dont underestimate this kid, its very possible he could have it in reverse or even find a way to miss a shift in an automatic :):):)

Something tells me "ILOVEGT" doesnt own a GT or a Legacy or a Subaru. Something also tells me he is my co-worker trying to me "sneaky". So no Lightning ever "tore" by a LGT once they hit 50mph.

So just trying to clean up some of the lies and untruths in the forum, and keep things honest. I think we should all point our fingers and laugh at "ILOVEGT" one because his lieing, and two because he got screwed into paying WWAAAYYY too much for an old lightning.

How do you know that I'm not your co-worker, and I've been planning on doing this for months, so I've been posing as an LGT owner just so you wouldn't expect it was me?

Hmmm....the internet makes me paranoid.
