jpmoe
Is there any cheaper way to do this? The U-joint isn't replaceable and the whole driveshaft has to be replaced which lists for $600 at the dealer. Is there any alternative?

Dusty B
Take it to a driveshaft shop. I asked a local place which has a good reputation if it was possible and they said they've done it before.

farberio
how does one know if this part is failing? Usually vibration in the car that's roadspeed dependent and not engine speed dependent. If the u-joints are 'sticky' then they are bad. Good ones have a full range of motion without any binding.
