Just finished my install, I've got the new Pioneer x950bh, so far it's great!

Looks good! Do you by chance have an iPhone 5 with it?

Is it a gloss black or satin black surround on the unit? Can't tell on my phone.

Just installed mine today. Was surprised how quick the dual climate control shipped from Japan. Thanks to all members who posted on how to do this, especially SVXdc.

Looks good! how quick did it get to you?

Well, after a hiccup with my bank denying my card due to it being a foreign transaction, it took less than a week.

Woah.. That is bad ass will be buying some goods soon!

Finished this weekend. Pretty easy thanks to all of the info here. Now it is impossible to get lost in this car since it has 2 navigation systems!

To get the gaps right I notched the face of the AC unit. The facia snaps off after you take the 2 screws out.

JVC unit is highly recommended. Very intuitive and FAST! There is zero lag from button push to response an the nav is dead fast. Plus, it has NaviBridge so you can use your phone to beam coordinates to it if the POI is not in the DB. Only quirk I notice is that you cannot search for POIs along the route only near you or near your waypoints (no biggie). Also, it doesn't show you the POIs at upcoming highway exits as some do...speed of the unit makes up for this.

Got Parrot?

After weeks of consideration, I pulled the trigger on the Parrot Asteroid Smart. I'm a geek. I want all kinds of apps, bells, whistles and unusual abilities in my Head Unit. I've had many cars over my 25 years of driving including several Nav/GPS head units. IMO, all of them have sucked royal ass for various reasons including slowness, piss-poor GPS apps, slow response times (#1 complaint), slow booting, blaa blaa blaa.

Anyway, I installed this system yesterday thanks to this forum - of course - SVxDc, AVOturboWorld, etc. And damn! I love this thing! It's already rooted via Framaroot (easy), and apps side loaded! I'll do a full video review in a few weeks and post it here. I've only been using it for 24 hours.

Really quick though:

* If you have any sort of basic mechanical/electrical skills and have done simple car stereo installations in the past, this install (with any head unit) will he a walk in the park. Don't be daunted. Most everything is color-coded or labeled. I soldered all my connections cuz I'm OCD.

* The Parrot harness has a connector on the other end which looks like it's intended for "standard" EU plugs maybe. You'll have to cut it off to do your connections.

* Parrot has two grounds, one of which is stupid-easy to just connect to and ground out the parking break and allow you (ehem.. passenger) to have full functionality while driving. I know they have to address legal issues/liability, but they couldn't possibly have made the bypass any easier for the most ignorant of installers.

* The interface is the fastest I've ever seen of all my Clarions, Kenwoods and Pioneers over the years.

* The iGo Nav app is weird but works well. It's smooth like butter. There's a bit of a high learning curve for functions but I got it down in a day more or less.

* It's all touch-screen. Swipe up or down for volume (really nice) and left/right for switching stations for example (easy on the road without looking down).

* It's got Wifi, 3 usb inputs, micro-usb input, iPod/iPhone input, etc.

Full review to come. Overall, I'm very, very happy with the way this install went and particularly, this head unit.

Looks like you have the same gap issues I did - on the right side. If you notch the bottom of the AC unit it'll push over. Make the left trim fit better too...mine was so tight I just knew it'd break given enough time. Also, how is the voice command?

Noticed a few more quirks that are a bit bigger deal. If you use a mass storage device, one of my main wants, SD or USB, the unit only lets you play from the folder structure. That is to say if you have all of your music organized in a tree (Artist>>Album>>Song) then you can only listen to a level 2 folder...that is, not randomly across artists. How crappy is that! And no playlist support! I do my homework; I swear I saw that it could do this. Looking for a cheap iPod now to wire into the USB port and abandon to the dark recesses of my glove box. :grumble grumble:

Nice! I've always been looking for a decent HU that runs Android. Looking forward to seeing your video review.

EDIT: Did you get the steering wheel controls working with this? Wondering if it's even worth trying.

Hey thanks! I love this thing! Miles more feature-filled and quicker than any of the Pioneer AVICs (junk) or Kenwoods I've had in the past.

I just put the video review up today here. Sorry I'm such a crappy video editor put most of the major points come across.

No, I didn't do the steering wheel controls cuz my car didn't come with them on the wheel. I would have done so on my old Spec B though. The harness is already there in the car. You just need the matching harness from SvX and some sort of adapter/control-unit.

:spin:

Looks nice, but damn, that's a lot of gauges.

I like a little less cluttered for my own ride. After my swap is done, a V3 AP will go in and be used as most of my gauges. I think the only gauge I'll run other than that is a VEI combo oil pressure/temperature gauge.

Everything went pretty smooth.

Wrapped the shifter ring, shift plate and knob with carbon fiber.

Plasti dipped the side trim pieces and the ash tray console.

Its temporary for now, I might peel it off and wrap it with matte black vinyl.

Here is my completed install in my '04 JDM Outback.

Will need to be removed again in another couple weeks to wire in the forward and reverse cameras and the steering wheel controls.

I am also going to remove the silver side parts and paint them black but leave the centre silver :)

Cheers
