ping
I saw an 05 LGT wagon 5mt with 82000 miles. What should I look for? How well are these cars holding up? I think I can answer that - my car 83k on it now. These cars seem to wear through their throw-out bearing before the clutch material itself, assuming a non-hoon life. Mine also needed a driver's side inner CV joint boot. It had hardened and ripped, probably on account of proximity to the DP cat. (>1.8k in my case) Stock shocks will probably be past shot. Other than the above, it's a lot of fun.

Max Capacity
read the sticky at the top of this forum or in short form, have the dealer do that ^. Or have your own guy check it out. The clutch could be ready to go, but do not put a oem one back in. 82,000 is not a lot miles. on a test drive listen for the wheel bearings, mine is a early 05 and I'm still on the oem ones. seems something happened at the factory later in the build year and they got batch of bad bearings. I'm still on oem shocks too. I did my left front axle this past summer. the others are fine. you do know, they didn't make many of these cars ? 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. MDW25gt
Thanks Max, I will check these out. Price is less then 13k and dealer says one owner. Non limited. I am trying to get the previous owners name and contact. Want to know what type of oil has been used?? Any other issues. Yes I know they are hard to find. Been looking for a while. read the sticky at the top of this forum or in short form, have the dealer do that ^. Or have your own guy check it out. demo243
This is my second LGT wagon. I had a 5EAT for about a year and then I got hit and the car was totaled... But I got lucky and found my 5MT close to home so I feel I upgraded... I got her right before Christmas last year so about a year now. The manual is so much more fun then the auto. I also had some fun this summer and went stage 2+ and its so much more fun. She is still a baby though, I just broke 50k. Always liked the red ones. And just for kicks for you I looked in the chart I found on this site not too long ago... and if your getting a red 5mt non limited wagon... it is one of 77 imported to the US. MDW25gt
I cant wait to get it. This is my 5th and 3rd in the garage. I have a 99 LGT 5mt and a 2000 2.5RS. Love them all. Yes a red 5mt non limited. 1 of 77 huh? Where was that info? I think the 1st mod will be a SPT intake. Or something like that. This is my second LGT wagon. demo243
Found this in some thread on the forums a while back. http://i871.photobucket.com/albums/ab271/demo243/Silver%20Legacy/Screenshot2010-07-25at102913PM.png From what I have read an intake really isnt worth it on these cars until you are pushing big numbers. Your best bet would be either an open source tune or a cobb accessport for stage1 which will give you some extra fun... or accessport/tune and a DP for stage 2. Also if your doing any exhaust work get a catless UP. If anything in that cat break aparts its going right into your turbo. for 06 i believe they got rid of them. you can get a catless up for about $150. I am currently running Invidia Catless UP, Perrin 1 Peice catted DP, Greddy Evo2 catback, and EFI pro tune on the accessport. I also did a Perrin TMIC, Cobb sways w/ energy suspension bushings, AVO short shifter, and stop tech power slot rotors with hawk HP+ pads.... and she is a whole new beast. I got really lucky and scored some great deals on parts from the for sale section.
jagcars26
demo speaks the truth.Forget the intake and use the money for a catless uppipe. Congrats on a semi rare find.-
MDW25gt
Thanks Jag, I will consider the down pipe. What are the gains with the up pipe also? How about the Cobb AccessPort? demo speaks the truth.Forget the intake and use the money for a catless uppipe. demo243
Gains arent too much with the UP, its more of a saftey thing. youll hear a bit more turbo noise and it might spool a bit quicker... thats pretty much it. Its really to remove the cat before the turbo so there is less chance of anything killing it. The accesport is great. Have to make sure you get the v2 with the color screen. it allows you to run different maps, read live data, data log, pull/clear CE codes, ect... you can usually find em in the for sale section for $4-500 used. just make sure you double check with the seller that it is unmarried... but most the people on here are great. bought plenty of stuff from other members with no issues If you do go with a DP you need a tune... so you can either run the stage 2 map that is on the cobb or get protuned by someone. Ive heard good things about infamous on here, but dont have any experience. Cobb stage 2 is good, but protune is really where it will shine. I gained about 15 whp and over 30 wtq with a protune over the cobb map
MDW25gt
I got them to agree to a compression test. What are the specifices to look for? Leak it down. Make sure the turbo is good.
doccrowley
Make sure and have the lower control arm bushings checked before delivery. Just had mine replaced yesterday at 80,000 miles. Car wasn't alignable because left front wheel caster was out of spec. Non-adjustable on this car and stock bushings. Aftermarket LCA bushings and now back on the road. Great find on the car. There is one of those Red non-limited 5MT in Utah and it is beautiful. Great find! Agree with the mods listed above except for the Accessport. Find a reputable tuner, have the car tuned and save the cash from the Accessport.
MDW25gt
Thanks Doc, I saw something about lower control arm bushings. I will have it checked before they get my check. If the turbo goes, what type of damage is done? Make sure and have the lower control arm bushings checked before delivery. Just had mine replaced yesterday at 80,000 miles. nm
I got them to agree to a compression test. What are the specifices to look for? All cylinders within a few PSI. Ideally PSI should be above 140 if the test is done per OEM recommendation. Given gauge issues and issue with how tests are done, you shouldn't discount 120 PSI with a good leakdown. Post the result of any leakdown if you get to this point.
Max Capacity
Thanks Doc, I saw something about lower control arm bushings. I will have it checked before they get my check. If the turbo goes, what type of damage is done? Don't let them put oem LCA bushings back in. Tell them you want a good aftermarket like AVO LCA bushings. If the turbo goes, figure the bearings, oil pump, may be scored cylinder walls. Heads should be taken apart and cleaned and checked. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. MDW25gt
Sounds like lower control arm bushings are ok. I asked the dealer what they did if a turbo goes and he said the they would flush it out with 3 oil changes. I have got to believe if something was in the oil you would get a leak when they do the compression test. The car pulls strong. I noticed a cough as I rolled off the throttle switching from 1st to 2nd. Anything to that? Supposed to pick it up tomorrow. They replaced a cam seal and I asked them what they would need to put on a new timing belt. They say they wanted $450. Seems they would need to pull the old belt off to get at the cam seal?? No? I told them to skip it. Don't let them put oem LCA bushings back in. Tell them you want a good aftermarket like AVO LCA bushings. If the turbo goes, figure the bearings, oil pump, may be scored cylinder walls. Heads should be taken apart and cleaned and checked.
