snow05gtRI
there's been a few threads on it, and no one has come to any conclusions. others have the same issue. i guess knowing your car does it when on the lift is a small piece added to the puzzle. sorry to derail the thread... Subie63
My problem is pretty much exactly what Snow's is. When I engage the cruise it works for varying amounts of time but is jerky. Then abruptly it stops working and "cruise" starts flashing on the dash. Even though it's kinda dangerous, I have popped it in neut. and shut the ignition off for a second and immediately restarted the car and the flashing "cruise" goes away. And I have purposely made it flash and then immediately park the car and hook up my code scanner to the vehicle just to find no trouble codes. I have read that if any of the wheel speed sensors were replaced with anything but OEM units, it will cause the cruise control to go haywire. I was wondering if this could be the problem and if there was a way of finding this out with the FreeSSM software. I just purchased the car almost exactly a year ago and I love it! But this little issue is driving me nuts. And I'm kinda cheap, so I am looking for anything to keep from taking it to the dealer.
frank_ster
Well if the abs sensor makes the abs happy inwouldnt understand why not the cruise. Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader
Lassiv
Any other software check values and reset tcu than FreeSSM? FreeSMS develoment is stopped i think I founded 1.25 version in google. Have any newer versions or newer software to 5eat checking and reset? (legacygt 2.0 -04). Can i do any linepressure changes or something like that with FreeSSM? I have vag-com cabel, can i use that all changes that 5eat. I read somewhere that DONT USE vag-com cabel to flash motor ecu (mcu). Any topic to 5eat line pressure changes or something like that? I just buy that car i think is best to start reset that tcu and look what happens after couple weeks.
frank_ster
no there is not much you can do to the 5 eat with software. the only modifications you can do is valve body modification, or install aftermarket control Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader
fishbone
Having said that, frank_ster, what parameters have been people playing with in FreeSSM and have seen success? I see a bunch of stuff in there but I don't know what works and if the changes stick until a battery disconnect, or they reset by themselves after a few drive cycles. I've used FreeSSM to adjust the idle speed a few times - that works. Tried altering the center diff line pressure, didn't work..
legacyshawn
I have not been able to use 2.0 with free ssm and free ssm doesn't work with 08+ cars Well crap, anyway to reset the tcu on 08+? I just bought a cheapo kkl vag-com cable from ebay to reset my TCU, besides having weird drivers on a mini disc, it worked! And more over, it worked on my 2008 3.0R. But as stated before, the 08+ 5EAT's won't let you adjust anything but the center diff clutch. I monitored ATF temps and a bunch of ECU sensors. It was cool too see the O2 sensors sensing "rich" on idle and the cam positioning change under load. Anyways, I needed to reset my TCU and it did what I needed it to for $9. Be happy - I couldn't even adjust the center diff clutch with my '05 5EAT. Oh, the option was there, but when I tried to change it, nothing happened, or maybe even an error.. I forget exactly which. hadvw
Well, it does let you adjust idle +-250 rpm until next ECU reset, which I've used a few times in a pinch. OTOH, I think ecuflash lets you adjust that in your tune..

Mega Users seabass07 Posted April 25, 2015 Mega Users Share Posted April 25, 2015 Website seems to be down or defunct Well that's sad. Not surprising though. It hasn't been supported, ever. Probably gave up on an old project.

amp583
2008 LGT 5EAT I replaced my VB, got FreeSSm to work and connect properly to my reset memory 2. I believe it was successful but i still have hard shifts between 2-3 primarily and down from 2 to 1. Occasionally 3-4 sticks as well. Did I not properly reset my TCU? amp583
how many miles? I think it takes a good while to relearn. Probably not enough. Only 80 or so tops since the Vb was replaced and tcu reset. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
amp583
Can someone give me a guide to reset the TCU? I've searched but nothing is comprehensive enough from start to finish. I've also read things like memory loading the TCU during the dial swipe. Looking to clear "memory 2"... Are these my steps: 1. Key ignition to ON - not started 2. Read TCU with FreeSSm 3. Click 'Clear Memory 2' 4. Wait... 5. Turn key to off? 6. Turn key to on -- wait for the dial red swipe to finish 7. Start car 8. Drive at 10-12% throttle angle while manually shifting gears?
