jproy12
Like the title says, I have a wine in 1st and 2nd gear and also under load in 5th gear. The wine is really noticeable in 1st and 2nd and was told "its normal", is it? Now for the 5th gear, its under load, it makes a slight wine noise, really hard to explain, not the same as the wine in 1st and 2nd! What can it be, i have almost new Extra S gear oil in there, so its not that for sure! Normal, or not? JP

Th3Franz
Gear whine is normal for our gearboxes.. especially with an aftermarket clutch and flywheel if you have that. I like the noise -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz

jproy12
Crap...I was going to suggest switching to something a little more full-bodied...a zinfandel, perhaps. Haha! Yea, i tried a search with wine, and nothing came out! But me being french Canadian, and English as a second language sometimes i sometime get confused with wording! Anyways, back on topic, whine it is, and in fifth gear! JP
jproy12
So, really no whine in 3rd and 4th, only in 1-2 and in fifth... normal, or not? JP
Smackmatic
I have only had mine for a few weeks, but it does this also. I test drove another 05 that didnt. I am not bothered by it. These types of noises can vary with how the gears are cut.
BoozeRS05
Prob your turbo whining. Does it do it low in gear, around 2000-2500rpms? And does it sound like its coming from the sterio or from the glovebox? bugblatterbeast
So, really no whine in 3rd and 4th, only in 1-2 and in fifth... normal, or not? JP Before changing out the shifter bushings all gears were pretty quiet. With the hardened bushings I get gear noise in 1st and 2nd but no other gears. RochNY91TSI
you're not alone... http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/mystery-whine-getting-worse-already-replaced-tob-clutch-plate-130290.html http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/tranny-whinning-51969.html 1st and 2nd is normal, 5th is not. I've yet to get 5th solved, the dealer has replaced the bearings twice and 5th gear once. My next step is replacing the aftermarket shifter bushing with stock to see if the noise goes away (their theory is that the poly bushing may resonate more sound in cabin; I guess it could, except that the noise was present beforehand. At any rate, I have to replace it to get them to do anything else).
