Scruit
The lamp is a $20 "Backup lamp" for a pickup truck that I bought from Meijer (like Walmart). It's mounted to the tow bar. I'm thinking of changing the mount so that rather than one lamp facing back I have two facing outwarsd at 45deg left and right.
BAC5.2
leds are ideal for bu lamps, better than hid, and better than halogen. No start up delay as with hid, and no capsule darkening as with halogens. These should be bright enough:) http://www.visionxusa.com/p327/22%22_xmitter_led_bar_black_forty_3-watt_led&%2339s_flood_beam/product_info.html $900. Gtfo. TSiWRX
^ Seriously, that's like, less than 3 of my flashlights, added together. Add up the cost of the various flashlights I carry in my car and Sara's, and I'm easily over that mark. Maybe I should be embarrassed instead of proud..... ---- http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/grayson-subaru-now-rigid-industries-dealer-132135.html?t=132135&highlight=grayson+subaru ^ Oh, that rocks! ---- I've had to hustle my truck into tight places, which meant sawing the shifter back and forth from R to L (they are on opposite sides of the H gate) when parallel parking. All that abuse, and the ballasts and capsules still work fine. And stop being a J3W....it costs like $40 to replace them nowadays if you buy an el cheapo kit. ^ Well, the wifey's Jewish, so that makes the daughter Jewish, too. I haven't converted, though - if someone comes at me(jr.) with a pin, they'll need to run for their lives, 'cause I've got an Emerson Karambit on reverse draw, on the weak side. But I totally know what you mean - I'm currently using a set of DDMs on my headlamps, and I've got a full spare set (of everything, not just bulbs) in the garage, in case something goes out. Nah, screw that, HIDs are so yesterday.... ---- The lamp is a $20 "Backup lamp" for a pickup truck that I bought from Meijer (like Walmart). It's mounted to the tow bar. My new thing is also playing with el-cheapos, to see if I can't make a bargain-light into a scorcher. almostinvincible119
I've done this on my truck, since I have 5% tint. And since I have 5% on my car, I've wanted something brighter. I might just try the HO reverse bulbs
SATSFYD
I have LEDs (HID-LEDs) in my backup lights, but they are not as bright as they should be. I too have tinted windows and would like to see better when backing up too. **There are two types of people in the world, those who build horsepower and those who buy it. Which one are you? DrSpeed
^ I'm not optimistic, but nevertheless, will keep my fingers crossed for you.... Indeed. TEH reverse lamp housings weren't made to have light hit the ground....and 3W LEDs are....well, probably not gonna cut it. BANNED FROM THE TIKI FORUM. TSiWRX
^ It's "3W" total - those are "SMD" chips.... A single true 3W star, with proper optics to help it do its job, I'd actually be more optimistic about. But that one?
